The Deputy Assistant Secretary for Administration serves as the deputy policy and operations leader and advisor to the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Transportation on Department-wide and Office of the Secretary (OST) administrative matters. The Deputy Assistant Secretary for Administration will provide executive advice and support to the Assistant Secretary for day-to-day operation of the organization and for coordination of recommendations affecting the policy and program issues requiring decision by the Deputy Secretary and Secretary. The Deputy shares responsibility for strategic management of human capital; monitoring the progress of departmental offices related to sustainability goals; controls and standards to ensure that procurement and financial assistance programs are in accord with good business practices; follow-up and resolution of Government Accountability Office and Inspector General audit reviews; information resource management; property management information; facilities, and security. Additionally, the Deputy Assistant Secretary oversees management studies and administrative initiatives, as required by the Assistant Secretary for Administration.

As the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Administration, you will:
- Participate with the Assistant Secretary for Administration in the planning, administration, and implementation of the management policies and decisions of the Secretary and Deputy Secretary. Provide advice and guidance on major administrative and policy matters related to short term and long term policy initiatives.
- Provide strategic advice regarding organizational management matters and policy and process development in areas such as acquisition, facilities/space management, human resources, security, property, information and asset management, and financial management.
- Evaluate and recommend appropriate action on proposals originated by the Operating Administrations and the OST Secretarial staff offices that may affect management policy or require policy decisions by the Assistant Secretary for Administration.

- Executive level experience managing at least three of the following management programs: audit relations, human resource management, security, financial management, facilities, acquisition and asset management.

This includes developing innovative solutions that resolve problems or conflicts between management requirements, an organization’s mission, and customer needs.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
An SES reviewing panel will evaluate your application based on the quality and extent of your total accomplishments, experience, and education. Applicants determined to be highly qualified may undergo an interview and a reference check. If selected, you must be certified by an OPM Qualifications Review Board (QRB), unless you are a current SES executive or have successfully participated in an OPM approved SES Candidate Development Program. You must receive certification before you can be appointed to the position.
