Growing Home, Inc. is a Chicago-based nonprofit that provides transitional employment and training in the context of our urban agriculture business. We are currently seeking an outgoing and enthusiastic individual to serve as a part-time Assistant (20-30 hrs/week) Program at our Wood Street Urban Farm located at 5814 S. Wood Street, Chicago. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated interest in employment training, workforce development, community development, or urban agriculture, with a background and experience in a relevant field. The Program Assistant is supervised by the Employment Training Coordinator and will work under the direction of the Field Training Specialist and Employment Specialist.
Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative and clerical support to Growing Home’s Employment Training Program staff, including assisting in taking calls, sorting mail, placing orders, setting appointments, making copies, drafting correspondence, filing, organizing documentation
  • Arrange for the repair and maintenance of office and classroom equipment as needed
  • Assist in program operation, including scheduling client info sessions, interviews, and applications; documentation of case notes, skill acquisition, work reviews, employment verification and other data; maintenance of confidential client files
  • Ensure that the Farm building is cleaned regularly to ensure a professional environment
  • Maintain petty cash and necessary accounting documentation
  • Assist with special projects, community events, tours, and workshops as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Mandatory Job Qualifications

  • Background in social work, psychology or related social science field
  • Ability to work confidentially with a diverse clientele
  • Highly organized, including ability to create, maintain, and understand filing and data systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to professionally communicate with clients, customers, visitors, volunteers, employer contacts, and funders
  • Able to operate and troubleshoot office equipment, including copier, fax machine, printer, etc.
  • Proficient in all basic computer tasks

Desired Qualifications

  • Case management experience
  • Administrative experience preferred
