The City of Surprise, AZ, is seeking a skilled, experienced land
use Planner to fill a key position in the Community and Economic
Development Department. Surprise is located 25 miles northwest of
Phoenix, is the 10th largest city in Arizona with a population of
117,517 and enjoys 300 days of sunshine annually.
The person in this position will be responsible for managing complex long-range planning and development projects. Incumbents in this position are responsible for projects requiring combinations of skill in project management, research, analysis, development, presentation, and interpretation of concepts pertaining to planning and implementation of plans.
The current city limits of Surprise include 100 square miles but its planning area will grow to over 300 miles in the future. Growth management is critical and an innovative land use planning team is critical to guide future development.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture or a related field and two years professional planning or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
