Located in the heart of California’s San Joaquin Valley, the City of Fresno (pop. 510,000+) is the fifth largest city in the state. Fresno is entering into a threshold period in its history. Under the direction of visionary Mayor Ashley Swearengin and a dedicated City Council, the community is committing itself to new planning philosophies focusing on revitalized core neighborhoods, export-oriented economic development, and a re-energized historic Downtown. The Development and Resource Management Department is supported by 140 staff and is responsible for the planning, zoning and building inspections functions; resource efficiency programs; housing; and community-wide revitalization efforts.

|A high energy leader, the ideal candidate will be an outstanding manager of people and projects. Accomplished in managing community revitalization, the new Director will possess in-depth familiarity with contemporary urban planning principles and practices that have direct relevance to Fresno. A minimum of five years of management experience and a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline are required. A Master’s degree and/or AICP certification is preferred.
