Green Business Program Intern, Oak Park Development Corp. (OPDC) - Chicago, Near West Suburb


Green Business Program Intern

OPDC is seeking an intern to implement a newly established local green business program.  The
program’s objective is to encourage small businesses in Oak Park and River Forest to make sustainability-related improvements to their operations and facilities. This is a yearlong initiative beginning immediately and continuing through Fall 2013.

The program’s work plan includes the following components:
• Selecting, orienting and maintaining a strong relationship with program participants;
• Initiating a pre- and post- energy efficiency audit for each participant;
• Developing and implementing a marketing and outreach strategy for the program;
• Organizing and staffing five educational seminars;
• Preparing informational material for participants on sustainability related strategies, products
and resources;
• Engaging partner organizations that provide direct and indirect support for the program.
Ideal qualifications include:
• Bachelors degree, or commensurate experience in community development, planning,
environmental science, economics, business management or a related field;
• Relevant experience in the field of sustainability, green business or related;
• Project management experience including event planning, marketing and some budgeting
preferred;
• Strong oral, written and online communication skills;
• An interest in working within the community setting with a wide range of stakeholders;
• Ability to work both independently and with a team;
• Flexibility in schedule and working environment.

Benefits:
• This is a paid internship: $10 hr.
• Availability: Immediately – November, 2013
• Estimated weekly hours: 10-20 per week depending on schedule and availability
