Greater Chicago Food Depository
Internship Overview:
Under the guidance of the Advocacy team, the intern will assist and
support the Greater Chicago Food Depository’s public policy, advocacy,
and outreach efforts to further our work to end hunger. This is a paid
internship.
Internship Responsibilities:
§ Assist with the recruitment and development of new potential
advocates in identified legislative districts where we currently lack
advocacy capacity.§ Identify and monitor relevant federal and state
legislation impacting the work of the Food Depository.
§ Prepare advocacy-related communications, including action alerts,
blog posts and newsletter articles
§ Assist with scheduling and coordination of outreach to elected
officials representing Cook County.§ Assist with coordinating the Food
Depository's participation in the annual Feeding Illinois Anti-Hunger
Conference in Springfield and Lobby Day and the Anti-Hunger Policy
Conference and Lobby Day in Washington, D.C.
§ Assist with the Food Depository’s participation in the Illinois Food
& Nutrition Advocacy Partnership (IFNAP), which is a broad based
coalition of community organizations that work on various nutrition
programs and issues.
Qualifications:
Desired qualifications include current status as a graduate student
studying Public Policy, Social Service Administration, Urban Planning or
Public Health, completion of one relevant internship or equivalent
experience, strong communication skills, creativity and
self-motivation. Experience with GIS a plus.
Time Frame: A minimum of 16 hours/week is desired. We are seeking
candidates who are available from January 2013 – May/June 2013.
