Florida Atlantic University’s School of Urban and Regional Planning is currently seeking an Assistant Professor and an Associate/Full Professor, Boca Raton, FL
FAU's School of Urban and Regional Planning is the only urban planning program in the South Florida region, which includes the cities of Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and West Palm Beach, and is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Florida Everglades. This unique position within one of the world's most vibrant living laboratories provides unparalleled opportunities for scholarship and community engagement. The two faculty members will work closely with the School's Center for Urban and Environmental Solutions, a nationally recognized applied research center that focuses on assisting state and local government to resolve planning, development, and sustainability issues. The School houses state-of-the art computer facilities and resources, including the Visual Planning Technology Lab and Design Production Studio.
The School of Urban and Regional Planning offers a PAB-accredited Master's degree in Urban and Regional planning. The school also offers a Bachelor's degree in Urban and Regional Planning, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Urban Design, one of only two such programs in the United States. A doctoral program is currently in development. Florida Atlantic University is a Carnegie-designated research-intensive university serving 28,000 students.
1. Assistant Professor position (position #: 991152):
The School of Urban and Regional Planning at Florida Atlantic University is seeking a tenure-track faculty member at the level of Assistant Professor with expertise in one or more of the following areas: environmental planning, hazards mitigation and preparedness, transportation planning, land use planning, and economic development and tourism planning. Expertise in other planning specializations will also be considered. The successful candidate will be expected to teach core courses in the School's graduate and upper-division undergraduate programs, as well as courses in his or her area(s) of specialization.
A Ph.D. in Urban Planning or a closely related field is required by the time of appointment (August 2015). A strong and innovative research agenda, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and service is required. Proficiency in GIS and other planning-related software or web applications is preferred. AICP certification is preferred.
2. Associate/Full Professor position (position #: 991696):
The School of Urban and Regional Planning at Florida Atlantic University is seeking a faculty member at the level of Associate/Full Professor with expertise in urban design, physical planning, or related areas. The successful candidate will be expected to teach core courses in the School's graduate and upper-division undergraduate programs, as well as courses in his or her area(s) of specialization. The Associate/Full Professor will also be expected to pursue external funding, participate in collaborative and interdisciplinary research, contribute to curriculum development, and coordinate the Bachelor of Urban Design program.
A Ph.D. in Urban Design, Urban Planning, or a closely related field is required at the time of application. Six years of academic employment experience is required to justify appointment at the Associate Professor level. A strong and innovative research agenda, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and service is required. Expertise in planning-related software or web applications is preferred. AICP certification is preferred.
