Anchorage is the largest city in Alaska and is home to 298,000 residents, 600 moose, 250 black bears, 60 grizzly bears, and 30 wolves. Anchorage has a multimodal transportation system and is a hub for road, rail and air cargo connections. The Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is a major air cargo hub ranking as the second busiest airport in the country for landed weight of cargo traffic. The world’s largest and busiest floatplane base is located near the airport and the Central Region DOT&PF offices.
The (maritime) Port of Anchorage handles over 90% of the freight entering Alaska and the nearby headquarters of the Alaska Railroad Corporation offers passenger and freight service south to Seward (at tidewater's edge of the Gulf of Alaska), and north to the City of Fairbanks (centrally located in the interior of Alaska).
The Central Region Planning Section of the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) seeks a highly motivated and skilled individual for the position of Anchorage Metropolitan Area Transportation Solutions (AMATS) Planner.
This position is DOT&PF’s primary staff member for the AMATS Technical Advisory and Policy Committees, and provides guidance and support for ADOT&PF representatives on the committees. AMATS is the decision-making body for the Anchorage Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) that sets transportation policy and determines priorities for transportation improvements in Anchorage involving federal funds (Anchorage and Fairbanks are the only two MPOs in Alaska).
The Municipality of Anchorage provides the primary staff for the MPO, and this position works closely with the Municipality’s lead. http://agency.governmentjobs.com/alaska/default.cfm?action=viewJob&jobID...
