The bcFellowship Program offers recent graduates an opportunity to work with communities across Texas to advance the public’s interest through engagement and design efforts. Since 2010, 41 Fellows have completed the twelve-month residency. With placement in one of the [bc] office locations Dallas, Houston or the Rio Grande Valley of Texas) bcFellowships offer a unique experience within the [bc] public interest design practice model.
Responsibilities:  [bc] is committed to community based design and is active in a series of dynamic and challenging projects in Rio Grand Valley, Dallas and Houston. bcFELLOW’s work daily on a variety of efforts in various capacities based on skill and experience. Fellows are supervised by the respective [bc] Associate Director in each office with the Director providing overarching program direction and periodic review.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
1-3 years’ experience in urban design and or architecture with direct client experience and a strong commitment to public interest design
Master’s degree (or bachelor’s degree plus equivalent experience) in urban design and or architecture preferred
Strong design abilities with visual communication skills and graphic talent
Recent construction or design build experience preferred
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Ability to work well under pressure with tight deadlines and a good sense of humor
Creative problem-solving skills
Spanish proficiency preferred
Compensation:
The benefits for this position include an annual living wage of $28,000 plus the following:
  • Healthcare coverage paying 100% of the Blue Cross Blue Shield HSA Plan for you as an individual.
  • Reimbursement not to exceed $500 for moving expenses if relocating;
  • Annual allowance of $1,300 for transportation, communication and professional development;
  • 80 hours paid vacation & 40 hours sick leave;
  • 5 paid holidays (Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day);
  • 40 hours paid summer break (week of July 4th) & 40 hours paid winter break (week between Christmas and New Year) (breaks may not be taken in combination with other vacation time).
COMMITMENT:  Position is full time 12-month position with residency/work in the [bc] Brownsville office. Year two of the fellowship may be offered based on performance.
