POSITION SUMMARY

Contributes to overall Planning activities that provide senior management with decision support in service allocation and initiatives to improve rider experience. Develops survey research tools and methods to obtain customer input and synthesizes data to develop recommendations that can guide planning decisions to reflect the customer perspective. Encourages ridership growth by maintaining customer focus in CTA's short- and long-term planning initiatives. Assists other internal departments on market research planning initiatives.

Company Description: Valerie S. Kretchmer Associates, Inc. is a small real estate and planning consulting firm based in downtown Evanston, IL (location is accessible by Metra, CTA Purple

and transit agencies, among others.

Description & Responsibilities: Demographic data analysis, data collection, primary source
market research, field work, assistance in preparation of reports and presentations (including
tables, figures and basic maps), general research, minimal administrative and clerical tasks.

Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint, be able to research and
gather data efficiently, and be able to communicate and write clearly. Familiarity with GIS,
geographic data constraints and structuring data for GIS is preferred. Good time management
skills, ability to work on multiple projects in tandem and attention to detail are very important.

Candidates must have a driver's license, but not necessarily own a car.

Detail: The duties are broad and are generally geared towards understanding the market context
of development proposals or planning initiatives and communicating this knowledge effectively
to clients. This includes spreadsheet demographic analysis using data from government sources,
Esri (via Business Analyst Online) and other vendors, such as CoStar and NIC. The
planner/analyst also does research on a variety of topics relevant to housing, economic
development, real estate development and community planning. This involves extensive
telephone calls to building managers, Realtors, commercial real estate brokers, business owners,
officials and service providers. It also includes field work (outside the office), observational
information collection, light land use analysis, map making and other tasks. Writing and
presentation skills are important, as the planner/analyst assists in client communications, writing
reports and preparing presentations based on research and data analysis.

Minimum Requirements: Master's degree in a related field and/or bachelor's degree with two
years of relevant experience. Affordable housing experience is helpful, though not required.

Salary: Commensurate with education, experience and skills.

Position Description | HR&A seeks part-time (approximately 20 hours) Analyst Fellows for the fall semester with potential for expansion over the academic year in our New York City office. HR&A is seeking candidates who have completed their bachelor’s degree and are working towards completion of an advanced degree, preferably with a concentration in economic development, urban planning, real estate finance, public policy, and/or housing finance. Additional relevant work experience is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates able to commit to a fixed work schedule over the course of the semester. The Miami Downtown Development Authority is seeking a Research & GIS Coordinator.  This position provides and prepares a range of research reports, data analysis, systems design, and support of computer-based GIS (Geographic Information Systems) mapping and related statistical software to advance economic and public policy initiatives.  
Performs data analysis and map/graphic production. Designs/deploys workflows and integration of research and GIS to meet analysis objectives. Compiles and integrates cartographic data from a wide variety of sources for inclusion in maps. Creates and edits tabular and geospatial data, integrating into interactive and online platforms. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant macro and micro economic indicators, including tourism, real estate, monetary policy, taxes, employment, industry clusters, etc. Generate visualizations (charts, maps, tables, etc.) that showcase research clearly. Manages GIS library and designs mapping solutions. Author succinct and concise reports to communicate information to stakeholders.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Geography, Computer Science, Economics, Urban Planning or related fields; and at least two years progressively responsible experience in similar setting.  Master’s degree highly desired, which may be substituted for experience.   Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Organized and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously in an efficient and timely manner.   Requires familiarity with urban planning, GIS, economic development, and market research methods. Summary of Duties
Reporting directly to the Department Head, Systems Performance and Data, the Service Analyst, will collect and analyze ridership, and financial operating data. Provide support for commuter rail planning activities using a broad range of planning techniques from quantitative analyses. Review and validate the accuracy of several projects in Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE), conduct research and update databases and graphs. Prepare and provide comprehensive operating reporting statistics to the National Transit Database (NTD) and other agencies and organizations. Work with teams to identify and reconcile any reporting discrepancies related to ticket sales and ridership reporting. Audit key operating statistics for reporting to ensure consistency. Provide statistical and data analysis as needed. Represents Metra at regional committees and task forces. Fulfill requests for data from other Metra departments and outside requestors. Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
  • Must have Bachelor's degree in Applied Math, Economics, Statistics, Finance, Market Research, Urban Planning or a related field.  Master’s degree with an emphasis on quantitative methods preferred.
  • Must have two (2) years applied experience with statistical and other quantitative analyses. Applied data management and survey research experience is preferred.
  • Must have strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amount of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to comprehend technical material.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Knowledge of database management, statistical software, SQL, programming/script/macro languages, transportation planning software, OBIEE, and geographic information systems preferred.
