Company Description: Valerie S. Kretchmer Associates, Inc. is a small real estate and planning consulting firm based in downtown Evanston, IL (location is accessible by Metra, CTA Purple
Line, CTA and Pace buses). Clients include real estate developers, local, regional and state
government agencies, non-profit organizations, community groups, public housing authorities,
and transit agencies, among others.
Description & Responsibilities: Demographic data analysis, data collection, primary source
market research, field work, assistance in preparation of reports and presentations (including
tables, figures and basic maps), general research, minimal administrative and clerical tasks.
Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint, be able to research and
gather data efficiently, and be able to communicate and write clearly. Familiarity with GIS,
geographic data constraints and structuring data for GIS is preferred. Good time management
skills, ability to work on multiple projects in tandem and attention to detail are very important.
Candidates must have a driver's license, but not necessarily own a car.
Detail: The duties are broad and are generally geared towards understanding the market context
of development proposals or planning initiatives and communicating this knowledge effectively
to clients. This includes spreadsheet demographic analysis using data from government sources,
Esri (via Business Analyst Online) and other vendors, such as CoStar and NIC. The
planner/analyst also does research on a variety of topics relevant to housing, economic
development, real estate development and community planning. This involves extensive
telephone calls to building managers, Realtors, commercial real estate brokers, business owners,
officials and service providers. It also includes field work (outside the office), observational
information collection, light land use analysis, map making and other tasks. Writing and
presentation skills are important, as the planner/analyst assists in client communications, writing
reports and preparing presentations based on research and data analysis.
Minimum Requirements: Master's degree in a related field and/or bachelor's degree with two
years of relevant experience. Affordable housing experience is helpful, though not required.
