Who: The Kresge Foundation works to expand opportunities in America's cities for people with low incomes. This work is done through grantmaking and social investing nationally in arts and culture, education, environment, health, human services and community development in Detroit.
Kresge’s Environment program works to help U.S. cities implement comprehensive climate-resilience approaches grounded in equity. The program helps communities address climate change directly so that they will be better prepared for the new challenges and uncertainties it introduces. By explicitly factoring climate change into decisions about infrastructure investments, land use, building codes, public health and other urban planning issues, urban leaders can make their communities stronger, more equitable and more resilient.

What: The Climate Change Philanthropy Fellow will support the Environment Program in advancing its goal of helping cities implement comprehensive climate-resilience approaches grounded in equity. The fellow will gain experience and insight into institutional philanthropy, climate change policy and advocacy, community development and strategies to incorporate equity firmly in climate change work. This position provides a valuable career development opportunity for an emerging climate change professional as well as added capacity to the Environment Program to fulfil its ambitious goal.
The fellowship is a two-year appointment and is open to those who have completed a minimum of master’s level training in a field related to urban climate resilience, such as environmental studies, public policy or urban planning. The City of Melbourne Chair in Resilient Cities is being established to provide a key point of leadership to align the resilience activities of both the City and the University. Located within the University of Melbourne Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning and working closely with the Melbourne Sustainable Society Institute, (MSSI) the Chair will work to enhance and support the many initiatives supporting resilience in the City, the University, their partners and communities. Research undertaken by the Chair will build upon the work sponsored by the City of Melbourne to develop a metropolitan resilience strategy in collaboration with 31 metropolitan local governments and as part of the Rockefeller Foundation's 100 Resilient Cities initiative. 
The Chair will lead this alignment of resilience across the full scope of the University's faculties and interests and will play a key role in influencing and stimulating local and international public debate and policy. Texas A&M’s TCWP program (tcwp.tamu.edu) and Texas Sea Grant (texasseagrant.org) are implementing several innovative and participatory planning projects that will shape how communities on the coast plan for conservation and prepare for natural hazards. We are looking for an energetic and skilled candidate to lead and manage projects that support communities by aligning state, federal, and university planning resources with community planning priorities. This is part of a FEMA-funded opportunity that seeks to integrate hazard mitigation on Texas Gulf Coast with long-term planning and development, and will be a remarkable opportunity to work in communities across Texas.  
Stakeholder engagement across the coast and beyond will be critical, and the Coordinator will be responsible for facilitation-process design and outreach activities for local officials, agency staff, and stakeholders. Experience with planning research and methods, plan development, community outreach materials, and report writing will be important for this position. Specialized knowledge of land development, comprehensive urban planning, land conservation practices, and coastal hazards will be very beneficial.

Founded in 1951, the mission of The Nature Conservancy is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends.
The Community Resilience Associate will help build a regional framework for resilience within and across coastal and inland municipalities through planning, policy, and projects that reduces risks from natural hazards and climate change.  The position will require extensive community-based engagement, partnership building, land use policy reviews, green/natural infrastructure project design, and on-call support for municipalities and regional organizations within New London County, Connecticut.  This position is a key addition to a highly effective team engaged with coastal resilience on local, state, national, and international platforms since 2007.  This is a one-year term position commencing upon hire date.  
Essential functions for this position include all of the following:
  • Advances and strengthens working relationships with priority municipalities, Council of Governments, and a broad array of stakeholders on behalf of the Conservancy’s Coastal Resilience Network and North American Urban Program;
  • Supports development of resilient practices, policy, and projects via community-driven workshops and design charrettes;
  • Gathers and synthesizes geospatial data relating to watershed hazard risks/strengths and green/natural infrastructure projects;
  • Reviews and develops local land use policy suggestions to improve resilience;
  • Conducts field visits and site reviews with partners at the municipal and regional scale;
  • Provides on-call services to priority municipalities on resiliency and hazard issues.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in science-related field and 2 year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with community outreach and workshops.
  • Experience in local land use policy review and interpretation.
  • Experience utilizing GIS software and data for geospatial analysis and product development for diversity audiences.
  • Experience conducting field visits and site reviews of coastlines and waterways with engineers, designers, and planners.
  • Experience managing databases and producing reports.
  • Experience coordinating multiple projects and managing timeframes.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite software. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of coastal systems, freshwater ecology, and resource management concepts in the context of risk reduction, hazard mitigation, and resilience at the local to regional scales.
  • Experience in municipal-based planning and innovative land use policy applications.
  • Background in environmental/landscape design – particularly green/natural infrastructure projects.
  • Solid GIS background and proven product development, including ability to utilize data and analytical tools and applications. Analyzing, manipulating, and interpreting data, including statistics.
  • Database management skills including creation of map products and report production.
  • Completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
  • Working knowledge of common software applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Web browsers) as well as project conceptual design software programs. 
  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.

Summary
The City of Chicago looks to expand upon its strong foundation in resilience. Chicago has been selected as one of the 100 Resilient Cities, pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation.  As part of this partnership the City is creating a new Chief Resilience Officer (CRO) role to transform and accelerate Chicago’s focus on resilience.
The CRO will lead the creation of a cohesive resilience strategy and to plan, coordinate, and direct resilience efforts across City departments.

Resilience is a multifaceted, integrated, collaborative  concept that crosses multiple disciplines and departments. The CRO will work in the Mayor’s Office, guiding the creation of a resilience vision and strategy document, and work with City government and with external stakeholders to deliver key initiatives that will expand and complement the City’s ongoing resilience work.  The CRO will also lead initiatives identified in the process of creating the resilience vision document. Overall the CRO will further develop, implement and lead resilience efforts for the City of Chicago.

The CRO will be located within the Mayor’s Office of the City of Chicago. This position will be supported in part by existing administrative staff within the Mayor’s Office.

Responsibilities
The Chief Resilience Officer will serve as the point person on the City of Chicago’s comprehensive efforts on resilience, working across the City and with external stakeholders. This role will also be the lead the partnership with and participation in the 100 Resilient Cities program including working with peers in other cities, and institutional partners.

  • Strategy and Planning
    • Guides the City and partners through a strategy process focused on urban resilience. The process uses the City Resilience Framework to diagnose and understand the City’s resilience and its primary areas of strength and weakness.
    • Guides the creation of a resilience strategy based on strong community and organizational buy -in and anchored in the unique challenges and opportunities that face Chicago. 
    • Develops a clear near-term road map for initial implementation priorities from the overall resilience strategy; this road map includes initial milestones and a project tracking approach.
    • Acts as the City’s representative and liaison to the 100 Resilient Cities initiative including, collaborating with peers in the international CRO Network, learning and sharing best practices, and engaging potential partners across industries and sectors.

  • Engagement and Partnership
    • Convenes and collaborates with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders across the city to ensure active and inclusive input.
    • Partners across city government and with other state and federal governmental actors in Chicago to engage on shared challenges and opportunities on broader resilience topics.
    • Collaborates with the  100 Resilient Cities Network of CROs,  expert consultants and other partners
    • Represents City’s resilience initiative at public events both in Chicago and elsewhere.

  • Delivery and Impact
    • Leads the development of a formal resilience strategy document for the City of Chicago.
    • Establishes and engages an ongoing collaboration structure for multiple institutional, governmental, cultural and community partners and stakeholders.
    • Identifies, establishes and incorporates resilience planning tools for City teams.
    • Implements projects and initiatives identified through the strategy development process.

Qualifications
The role will be complex and cross disciplinary requiring senior level expertise and demonstrated experience with strategy, engagement and project delivery.

The following qualifications are strongly preferred:
·       Management experience preferably in a large, diverse, urban municipal, corporate, military and/or large non-profit organization;
·       Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public or business administration or a related field (Master’s degree or higher a strong plus);
·       Experience leading strategic planning and operations in the areas of public policy, urban planning and/or economic or community development;
·       A proven track record of working across populations and stakeholder groups, particularly historically underserved populations;
·       A proven track record of implementing a major project that required coordinating with and executing across multiple sectors or disciplines  
·       A demonstrated knowledge of municipal government (experience working with municipal governments preferred);
·       A proven track record as an effective organizational leader;
·       Managed a team including both direct reports and peers, as well as consultants or contractors
·       Experience with the Chicago local community or region with the demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with all levels of government, businesses, non-governmental agencies and community leaders.
