Illinois Green Alliance was founded over 20 years ago to combat climate change in Illinois by advancing healthy high-performance net-zero green buildings for all. Illinois Green provides education and training for building professionals, the public sector and community organizations on the latest trends and technology, advocacy to scale the impact of sustainability, and community service projects that ensure everyone benefits.

A key strategy to success is our education program that serves as the go-to resource for the region’s green building community: architects, engineers, contractors, policymakers, nonprofit leaders, energy consultants, and building owners and operators. Job Description

Illinois Green seeks an Education & Engagement Manager eager to work collaboratively to grow our education programs and projects, and to leverage our passionate membership base.

As the Education & Engagement Manager, you will assist in developing education program strategy and oversee staff with the implementation of new and existing of programs that seek to reduce energy use, and carbon emissions from the building sector. You will report to the Associate Director, and work closely with the Executive Director in this role.

Key responsibilities

·        Oversee and implement education and programmatic strategy to support Illinois Green’s strategic plan goals

·        Coordinate the development, planning and implementation of net zero education and outreach programs for building industry stakeholders in our region

·        Oversee and provide strategic direction to the programs, outreach and resources associated with the Illinois Green Schools Project and Illinois Green Ribbon Schools Program.

·        Foster programs and opportunities that engage Illinois Green members as volunteers to provide education, resources, technical assistance and support to building industry stakeholders

·        Develop and manage relationships with partner organizations, community leaders and building industry stakeholders

·        Work with partner organizations and community leaders to develop strategy and action plans to share building design, construction and operations best practices for every community in Illinois

·        Administrative duties related to Illinois Green programs, events, committees and initiatives

·        Will work with the Associate Director to develop and execute annual program plans that align with our mission and meet budget goals


Experience

 

·        At least five years of experience in managing staff and working in the environment, green building and/or nonprofit sector

·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt to multiple audiences

·        Basic knowledge of the green building industry in Illinois

·        Has supervisory experience and is invested in supporting the growth of entry-level staff

Position Summary:
The Director, Urban Green Infrastructure Partnerships will act as NatureVest's primary point of contact with municipalities and private developers looking to incorporate green infrastructure into their programs and will be responsible for ensuring investment objectives are incorporated into implementation. Reporting to Director of Product Development,this key position is a unique and exciting opportunity for an entrepreneurial leader who is knowledgeable and passionate about leveraging financial markets to drive environmental impact and urban sustainability through urban green infrastructure investments.

Responsibilities & Scope:
  • Working in collaboration with the Director of Product Development and the North America Urban Conservation Directors, engage U.S. municipalities through direct outreach to mayors' offices, utilities, and regulators to develop a pipeline of viable investment opportunities.
  • Work with the Director of Product Development to set strategic direction for municipal and regional priorities and investment criteria.
  • Work with Director of Product Development to evaluate and scope deals. Ensure preliminary conservation objectives are considered and incorporated into initial scope definition and assist with the development partner selection process.
  • Work closely with TNC's Global and North American Cities Programs, and interested TNC Chapters to train staff and their municipal constituents to support evaluation of how cities can leverage impact capital and NatureVest to identify potential opportunities for investable green infrastructure and stormwater management initiatives.
  • Establish working relationships with local and national enterprises, municipalities, and other NGOs to identify high-quality development partners, build sources of demand for green infrastructure investment, and establish partners in policy leadership and community engagement.
  • Maintain international profile by producing original thought leadership pieces through written articles, conference appearances, and video work on policy and investment best practices.
  • Significant US travel involved.

Desired Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will have:
  • BA/BS degree and 12 years in municipal government or as a technical consultant to municipal government working on regulated water quality issues, sustainability-related initiatives, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and directing complex initiatives of strategic importance, including the management of budgets, the supervision of multidisciplinary professionals, and the coordination of the work of partners.
  • Experience in partnership development (partners, community, government, etc.), working effectively with a broad array of stakeholders with divergent needs.
  • Experience with current trends and practices in stormwater policy, regulation, and green infrastructure implementation.
  • Successful experience facilitating complex negotiations with municipal, state, and/or federal governments, and/or private business.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
  • Master's in Urban Planning, Public Policy, Public Administration or Business Administration, or other advanced degree with significant course work in policy, planning and public administration is preferred.
  • Sense of urgency, with the ability to manage multiple work streams on time and on budget while meeting or exceeding goals.

Planning and Policy Analyst, Openlands - Chicago


The Planning and Policy Analyst coordinates planning and policy projects that strategically

promote the protection of land and water in our region while also connecting people

to nature. The position involves conducting research, advocacy, implementation, and

community outreach to advance our policy agenda.

The Planning and Policy Analyst integrates planning efforts to facilitate interdisciplinary

work across Openlands’ urban, suburban, and rural focus areas. He/she identifies

opportunities to create strategic and systemic impact and on the ground projects for the

protection, enhancement, and expansion of open space.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage projects from scope development through on the ground implementation and

team coordination

• Research open space planning initiatives on the regional, state, and national level;

identify issues and trends; propose opportunities to implement model demonstration

projects to protect land and water

• Conduct research and analysis of policy positions and planning projects (including

designing research projects, data collection, and literature reviews; analysis of

legislation, statutes, zoning ordinances, comprehensive plans, etc.)

• Draft / write policy reports, white papers, and briefing documents

• Create planning documents or graphic displays for specific projects

• Coordinate and write internal and external communications around policy and planning

• Conduct community and educational outreach on issue campaigns and projects

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
