SBIF Overview: The SBIF is a City of Chicago Tax Increment Finance (TIF) funded grant program available to commercial and industrial small business owners and landlords in many of the City’s TIF districts for building rehabilitation and renovation projects. Grant funds are disbursed in rebate fashion as a qualified percentage of eligible project costs. SomerCor 504, Inc. works with staff from the City’s Department of Planning and Development to administer the SBIF program.
Job Duties: The Project Coordinator (PC) will be in charge of organizing SBIF application intake and organization. The PC will work alongside the Assistant Directors and Director in coordinating the application process for many SBIF projects. This requires frequent written (e-mail and formal letters) and oral communication (phone calls and in-person) to SBIF applicants, detailed document review and organization, project site inspections, and database utilization and maintenance. Additional duties will include data reporting on a regular and as needed basis, website maintenance, and communication and outreach efforts. The PC will report to the SBIF Director.
Candidate Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), possess strong written and verbal communication skills (Spanish language competency is a plus but not required), and have some knowledge of and demonstrated interest in the community/economic development field within the City of Chicago. Experience with or knowledge of the City of Chicago public sector (government, not-for-profit) is a plus. General knowledge of the construction trades is a plus. A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in the fields of Urban Planning, Economics, Public Policy, Political Science, or Business Administration is preferred.
