The City of Pittsburg is looking for an individual who will be able to help lead the Planning Division in delivering excellent customer service and assist the City with a variety of development projects. The individual will lead the planning team (staff of 4) and function as either the Planning Manager or Senior Planner.
The Planning Manager is a division head within the Development Services Department, and exercises full responsibility for planning, organizing and directing the work activities of Planning Division staff.
The Senior Planner is the upper journey level class in the professional planning series. Incumbents research and analyze planning issues and prepare planning reports, studies and recommendations. Responsibilities may include planning, organizing and directing the work activities of subordinate division staff and assuming the responsibilities of the Planning Manager in his or her absence.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Planning Manager
Qualified applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree in city or regional planning or a related field supplemented by four years of increasingly responsible experience in city or county planning, including one year of project management and supervision. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver’s license and proof of auto liability insurance is required.
Senior Planner
Qualified applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree in city or regional planning or a related field and four years of increasingly responsible experience in city or regional planning (preferably in a California city or county); one year of supervisory experience is desirable. Master’s degree can substitute for one year of experience. Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid Class C California driver’s license. Possess and maintain proof of auto liability insurance. Possession of American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Certificate is desirable.
