 The University of Texas at Arlington (UT Arlington) invites 
applications for a tenure-line opening emphasizing research, teaching, 
and service towards sustainable urban communities. Developing more 
sustainable communities is vital to strengthening our economy, enhancing 
everyday life, and providing a foundation for lasting prosperity. UT 
Arlington is uniquely positioned to address the epic challenges that 
face swelling urban regions and megacities via its faculty expertise and 
location in the heart of the fourth-largest metropolitan area in the 
U.S. –Dallas-Fort Worth. Learning from the past and present to ensure a 
sustainable future, opportunities abound to make urban regions more 
livable, including reducing air pollution, preserving ecosystems, and 
offering a variety of transportation and housing choices. UT Arlington 
will foster sustainable urban communities through a focus on the 
natural, built, economic, cultural, and social environments.

Rank is open with a doctorate in city or regional planning, history, 
political science, public administration/policy, or urban affairs. 
Candidates at the associate or full rank should have a strong record of 
funded research and publications with interdisciplinary impacts. 
Candidates at the assistant level will be assessed on their potential 
for the same outcomes. The ideal candidate should be able to teach 
across disciplines and demonstrate expertise in one or more of the UT 
Arlington strategic areas: health and the human condition, sustainable 
urban communities, global environmental impact, data-driven discovery 
and enhancement of knowledge (viz., http://www.uta.edu/strategicplan/). 
Salary is competitive.
