Description: This position is responsible for the Administrative Operations of the Department of Biological Sciences which includes three sites, Science and Engineering South (SES), Science and Engineering Laboratory (SEL) and Molecular Biology Research Building (MBRB). Independent action and discretion are essential in overseeing a wide range of administrative projects. Especially important will be this person’s ability to assume direct responsibility for the long range planning, goal setting and coordination of several areas of activity vital to this academic unit, including providing day-to-day direction and project management for professional staff, administrative offices, curriculum planning, faculty affairs, instructional and summer budgets, and self and comparative assessments. In addition, this position provides guidance on all personnel issues; participate in process and customer service improvement.
Duties: • Manage the Department Human Resources and Payroll operations
• Manage support staff administrative activities
• Advise faculty and staff on employee relation issues, such as, grievance, mediation and disciplinary procedures.
Qualifications: *Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
*• Bachelor's degree in business administration, management or a field related to the position
• Two years of finance and budgeting experience, one year of which was at an administrative level in a university or similar institution
• Minimum of five years of administrative management and supervisory experience
• Experience with Microsoft Office for PC/Mac
*Strongly Preferred Qualifications:
*• Master’s degree in business administrative management or a related field
• Ability to interpret employee relations and faculty affairs policies and procedures
• Previous experience with HR and Payroll functions, and working knowledge of Banner and HireTouch or comparable software.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, problem-solving skills, and ability to plan and organize large scale projects as needed
