Lead Organizer Position Announcement
Lake County United is a non-profit, non-partisan organization of 36 churches, synagogues, mosques, and civic groups. Formed in April of 2003 our member organizations commit both dues and leaders to work for a just society through active citizenship. Lake County United is an affiliate of the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF). For more information see www.lakecountyunited.org and www.metro-iaf.org.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work closely with Lake County United’s leaders to identify issues and create local and regional campaigns to address them.
• Build core organizing teams in existing member institutions; recruit new member institutions.
• Conduct regular leadership trainings and retreats.
• Raise a budget of $250,000 through member dues, foundation and corporate grants, individual donations, and other means.
• Provide advice and support to Waukegan to College, a college readiness non-profit started by Lake County United.
• Build relationships with an array of leaders in the local and regional public, business, philanthropic and non-profit sectors to advance the organization’s work.
QUALIFICATIONS
• At least five years of experience in community organizing (with an organizing network like the IAF, PICO, or the Gamaliel Foundation) or union organizing with increasing areas of responsibility. Previous experience working with congregations and other institutions is required.
• Proven ability to engage diverse communities, cultivate relationships with and develop leaders.
• Success in securing foundation and corporate grants.
• Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively in oral and written forms.
• At least a Baccalaureate Degree in related field is preferred.
• Car for travel to meetings in the region. Willingness to work an average of 50 hours per week.
• Spanish language ability is a plus but not required.
