U of M SMART Research Coordinator

The Sustainable Mobility & Accessibility Research & Transformation (SMART)
initiative of the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute
and the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning seeks to fill
the position of Research Area Specialist Intermediate with a working title
of SMART Research Coordinator to assist in responding to increased demand
on SMART's research activities and related education and technology
transfer initiatives. The position requires significant interaction with a
wide variety of partners as well as creative development of projects and
opportunities related to SMART's goals and activities.

Responsibilities*
Building on SMART's extensive network of collaborators, the Research
Coordinator will serve as a key contact and research developer, planning,
designing, and developing multi-disciplinary research activities related
to the SMART initiative. The successful candidate will: review progress
for project activities and modify research plans as appropriate; develop
and maintain key relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
develop publications and disseminate research results, transfer and
promote SMART activities through print, web, social media, and events;
assist the SMART Director in meeting project objectives; identify
opportunities and prepare all elements of proposals to new and existing
project sponsors for research, education, and living laboratory /
technology transfer activities; assist the SMART Director with the
day-to-day management of SMART, including work on project reports and
follow-ups, arranging meetings and events and related materials, and
supervising work study students; maintain connections with multiple
partners; organize events large and small; utilize and maintain SMART
contact database and develop supplementary contact systems as needed; lead
project outreach and public relations activities, develop and deploy
communications plans.

Required Qualifications*
Master's degree in a related field such as urban planning, architecture,
environemental studies, and 4 to 5 years of related experience required.
Supervisory, financial management and complex project planning and
management experience preferred. Demonstrated exposure to and
understanding of sustainable development and transportation in an
urbanizing world, and experience working on related projects
internationally also preferred. Excellent organizational, management and
oral and written communication skills. Comfort working in a number of
environments, including public, private, NGO, and academic sectors.
Creativity and flexibility; knowledge of social networking tools and how
to utilize them in outreach, project development, technology transfer, and
other business activities.
