Comm. Dev. Internship with Pilsen Alliance

Pilsen Alliance seeks motivated applicants for the Community Development Internship. The Summer 2012 internship will begin in June 2012 and continue through August 2012, depending on the intern's school schedule.

DESCRIPTION
Community Development Interns will support all levels of the Development and Organizing Department. Some of the tasks interns will be asked to complete in Summer 2012 include:
Community Engagement:
• Support development of the organization;
• Interface with community activists and leaders;
• Provide general logistical support for events; and
• Coordinate event registration and follow up with activists.
Issue Advocacy:
• Support campaigns;
• Assist in issue campaign research;
• Help coordinate events and workshops;
• Work with staff and volunteers of coalition partner organizations to implement organizing tactics around various issues, including but not limited to TIF, Education, Environmental (Mayor Appointed Fisk & Crawford Task Force)
General Administrative Support:
• Organize mailings;
• Photocopy distribution materials;
• Create flyers;
• Maintain databases; and
• Other administrative duties as needed.
This position requires a minimum commitment of two days per week (15-20 weekly hours), including some evenings.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Political Science, Public Policy and other social science-related majors encouraged;
• Strong interpersonal skills;
• Possess basic office skills; and
• Experience in community organizing, event planning, grassroots organizations, or lobbying preferred.
