The Project Coordinator - Transportation will coordinate “active transportation” efforts for the Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) cooperative agreement sponsored by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This position will be responsible for coordinating the development of two specific transportation planning projects – the Safe Park Access Plan and the Chicago Complete Streets Policy and Design Guidelines Project.
These projects will focus on improving pedestrian, bicycle, and transit access throughout the city and will require close coordination with the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT). This position will be the primary liaison between consultant staff, City departments, and the Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children (CLOCC) on active transportation issues related to obesity prevention. Responsibilities will include coordinating consultant work on the above projects, facilitating project steering committees, and communicating and reporting on project efforts in both written and verbal forms.
Project Duration: This position is funded by the CDC Communities Putting Prevention to Work program, housed within CLOCC at Children’s Memorial Hospital. The project is expected to reach completion in September 2012.
Essential Job Functions:
The Project Coordinator - Transportation will coordinate two specific active transportation projects as a part of the Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) project sponsored by the CDC. This coordination will include the following tasks:
1. Oversee the development of the Safe Park Access Plan and the Complete Streets Design Guidelines Project; ensure the quality and timely completion of key project deliverables.
2. Serve as a liaison between the project consultants, CLOCC staff, CDOT, and other City/State/Federal agencies to ensure successful completion of the Safe Park Access Plan and the Complete Streets Design Guidelines; coordinate frequent and effective communication with these entities.
3. Facilitate meetings, and provide support to all stakeholders for the development and adoption of the Safe Park Access Plan and the Complete Streets Design Guidelines.
4. Develop and administer content for project websites; coordinate project steering committees, including meeting content and logistics.
5. Develop and present materials to City agencies, City advisory councils/task forces, and community organizations.
6. Perform tasks in support of day-to-day project operations, such as tracking workflow, reviewing materials and outputs, and providing routine administrative support.
7. Participate in project meetings and prepare reports as needed.
8. Work with CPPW Associate Project director, CPPW city Agency Liaison, CLOCC's Advocacy program Manager, and other members of the planning team to ensure successful and timely implementtion of policy Manager, and Advoacy efforts related to transportation initiatives.
9. Coordinate communication with public officials and other stakeholders as needed.
10. Draft reports and other resource materials to advance policy initiatives.

Mandatory Job Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Geography, or Public Policy/Administration.
2. A minimum of two years of relevant work experience in a transportation planning-related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Geography, or Public Policy/Administration or related field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge and familiarity with pedestrian, bicycle and transit planning, policy, and design considerations.
2. Experience working with government agencies.
3. Strong analytical, interpersonal, oral and written communication, organizational, and record-keeping skills.
4. Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
5. Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks in coordination with a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment with rigorous timelines and goals.
6. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
7. Ability and willingness to travel frequently throughout Chicago by car or public transit.
8. Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
9. Familiarity with Chicago communities, community-based organizations, and city-government organizations.
Working Conditions:
1. Normal office environment, including computer monitor exposure during the performance of assigned duties.
2. Requires local travel, and may require out-of-town travel and participation in weekend and evening events.
3. Minimal likelihood of occupational exposure to pathogens during performance of assigned duties.
