Economic Development Interns
Metra is building a rail-over-rail “flyover” that will separate freight
and passenger train tracks, alleviating a problematic bottleneck that
has brought train speeds in the area to as low as 9 miles per hour. To
be completed in 2013, the project is designed to eliminate conflicts
between 68 Metra passenger trains and 60 freight and Amtrak trains that
intersect daily at a shared ground-level crossing located in Englewood.
The project will call for the employment of approximately 2,000
construction workers over the course of the 2 year project. During this
time, it is our goal to encourage a connection between contractors and
their workforce in the local businesses of the Englewood community. We
are calling this effort the “Englewood Flyover Local Business Initiative”.
At this time, Target Group needs to interview potential community
businesses about their involvement with this Metra effort. We need
people to go door to door in order to:
1. Inform businesses about the Englewood Flyover Local Business Initiative
2. Determine the businesses’ desire to participate
3. Collect/ confirm contact information for participating businesses
4. Direct any questions/ comments to Target Group’s point of contact
(Andrew Johnson, Senior Project Associate: Ajohnson@TargetGroupInc.com)
Candidates should have an interest in local community and economic
development. This assignment will expose participants to the
development of a local business rewards program with the end product of
this project being a report that illustrates its economic impact.
