Job Description
The Policy Analyst will work directly with the President/CEO and the Director of Research and Analysis on specific projects. The Policy Analyst will be responsible for all research, data collection and analysis, as well as serving as the principal author of resulting reports. He or she will be involved in the development and design of research, from proposal to completion. In addition, the Policy Analyst will develop important working relationships with a range of community groups and government agencies and will represent the Ochs Center at multiple community meetings.
Job Requirements
The Ochs Center is seeking candidates with the following qualifications for this position:
* Master's degree -- or bachelor's degree with significant relevant experience -- in public policy, public administration, economics, mathematics, sociology, statistics or related fields
* Understanding of the role of research and data in the development of public policy
* Strong analytical ability and writing skills; ability to translate complex research and analysis into information that is practical and easily understood by community groups
* Strong communication skills and experience presenting information to diverse audiences
* Experience in working with local governments and/or nonprofit organizations
* Interest or background in one or more of the following policy areas is preferred: education, crime, sustainability
* Experience in manipulation of large data sets and use of statistical packages (such as SAS or SPSS)
* Experience with ArcGIS mapping software a plus
* Demonstrated commitment to work in the public interest
* Ability to work as a member of a team
