The University of Illinois at Chicago seeks a Director for its African American Cultural Center (AACC). The Center contributes to the academic mission of the university by promoting the expression and analysis of African American and African Diasporan creative and cultural traditions. The mission of the AACC is to provide campus-wide education through cultural activities for example, exhibits, performances, lectures and presentations. The Center contributes to the advancement of African American and African Diaspora students and promotes their development as a strong community on campus. Duties:

The Director’s primary responsibility is to implement the Center’s mission and manage its day-to-day activities and operations, budget and financial planning, staff supervision, programming, advocacy, outreach and development,



The preferred applicant will demonstrate the following: leadership and creativity in organizing and developing educational and cultural programs for and about the diverse African American and Diaspora communities and cultures within a university; experience working with college student populations; experience working with African American and African Diaspora communities in the city of Chicago or another major diverse urban setting; experience with strategic thinking and planning while being a creative and innovative problem-solver; team building and creative conflict management skills; ability to build collaborative relationships with diverse individuals, groups, and stakeholders; supervisory experience; knowledge in financial and human resource management; grant-writing and development skills; experience working with college student populations; understanding of program evaluation and assessment; and computer literacy.

Qualifications:

Master’s required and Doctoral degree preferred with a minimum of three years of relevant experience. Salary range is $55-75,000, commensurate with experience.
