POSITION DESCRIPTION | We are seeking Analyst or Senior Analyst candidates for a January, 2016 start to join a small project execution team that will be based in Raleigh, NC. Our team will support HR&A’s New York, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, and Dallas offices in serving clients throughout North America, with a focus on serving the Southeastern US market.
Analyst: Analysts are the foundation of HR&A’s team-oriented, collaborative structure. Tasks may include real estate market analysis; case study research; strategic planning; preparation of real estate pro formas for a range of uses and public-private structures; economic and financial analysis; and public policy analysis. Analysts also help prepare marketing materials, proposals, and client deliverables in the form of written reports, memos, PowerPoint presentations, and Excel models.
Senior Analyst: Day-to-day tasks will require completing complex real estate and economic assignments including pro forma analysis for a range of uses, market feasibility research, fiscal and economic impact studies, public-private partnership strategies, and public policy design. The Senior Analyst will review and present client deliverables, including memos, reports and PowerPoint presentations; and will support the firm’s business development efforts. Senior Analysts must also ensure that the tools and methodologies utilized in the performance of our work are effective and successful, and assist in planning work efforts and monitoring project budgets.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED | Successful candidates for both positions will possess strong skills in both quantitative and qualitative analysis. They will have a passion for urban development and policy, and a deep curiosity about the challenges and opportunities facing cities. They must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficiency with PowerPoint, Excel, and Word; and the ability to manage multiple assignments at once. Furthermore, candidates should be highly motivated independent thinkers who are detail-oriented, entrepreneurial, and sufficiently poised for client interaction. The most successful candidates will show a capacity for leadership, the ability to think critically and creatively, and potential for professional growth. Specific requirements follow:

Main Purpose & Function
The Data Analyst will join the buildingcommunityWORKSHOP bcANALYTICS effort to strengthen neighborhoods by employing data and research for informed decision-making. The focus is on the strategic and systematic use of data to tackle urban and civic issues, particularly those affecting asset-poor families. The position will work within the bcANALYTICS team with oversight from the Director and in support of other [bc] staff. 
The Data Analyst’s work will be focused on (1) the collection, visualization, reporting of data to answer questions identified by neighborhood working groups (2) serve as a data intermediary between partner institutions and [bc] (3) support a wider development of community-wide data resources.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Collect and track community and neighborhood indicators related to trends in quality of life around education, economic development, housing, health, and public safety including data from public sources 
Collect, analyze, and present social, demographic, economic, property, and program data
Prepare reports for non-profit organization efforts to aid in organizational strategic decision-making 
Draft and implement data sharing agreements as needed
Deliver data content for group seminars, forums, public communication, and presentations
Coordinate with diverse group of local stakeholders (including neighborhood groups, non-profit organizations, and local government) to advance a data strategy for cities in Texas
Qualifications 
Required:
Bachelors degree in applied statistics, urban planning, computer science, or social science with emphasis on quantitative research in urban environments
Experience with the development of data and geodatabase systems and/or cloud database structures
Experience with quantitative and qualitative data collection, cleaning, transformation, management, and analysis
Proficiency with or expertise in quantitative data cleaning, analysis, and visualization tools  (MS Excel, Numbers, SAS, Stata, SPSS, R, SQL, Python)
Proficiency with geospatial analysis/visualization tools (ArcGIS, QGIS, CartoCSS, TileMill) 
Excellent report writing, editing, and proofreading skills
Intensive research experience in academic and/or professional contexts, including survey design, data collection/analysis/visualization and presentation of research to non-technical audiences
Ability or experience working with diverse stakeholders, including the ability to listen to and interpret the needs of non-technical users

Position Description |We are seeking a Program Analyst to serve as HR&A’s primary analyst and a key manager of HR&A’s participation in the Network. This high profile position will report to senior HR&A staff and collaborate with the senior staff from the other members of the Network consortium. The position will also engage directly with local, state, and federal agency staff with interest in the work of the Network.
The position’s core responsibilities are 1) performing quantitative and qualitative analysis of the economic conditions and challenges present in cities around the country; 2) drafting detailed reports containing such analysis, additional findings from site visits, and proposed scopes of services for assisting cities; 3) participating in site visits to cities to interview local officials and stakeholders and learn firsthand local economic needs and opportunities; 4) supporting city-specific consulting engagements, as part of a team with other HR&A and consortium member staff; 5) managing HR&A’s overall participation in the Network, including budget oversight, expense monitoring and reporting, and advice and assistance as requested by other HR&A staff involved in the activities of the Network.
The positon is focused full-time on the Network for a minimum of one year. The Program Analyst may have opportunities to continue after that year full-time on the Network, or take on other HR&A projects, or some combination thereof, based on performance and the needs of the firm.
Experience Required | Successful candidates will possess strong skills in both quantitative and qualitative analysis with regard to urban economic issues, demographics, real estate and land use development. They must able to provide examples of analytic products produced for clients, internal corporate purposes and/or in graduate degree requirements.  Candidates must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficiency with PowerPoint, Excel, and Word; and the ability to manage multiple assignments at once. Familiarity with demographic and economic data sources, GIS mapping, and economic analysis is highly desired.
