Job Description: 
Assists in the development, planning, and review of existing and proposed bus routes. Assists in the development of the annual Transit Service Plan. Assists in the strategic planning for bus and rail service integration. 

Responsibilities and Specific Duties:
  • Assists in planning and implementing new and restructured local, regional, and emergency transit services.
  • Prepares maps and other geographic analyses of ridership, socio-economic trends, and other transit related data.
  • Conducts, compiles, and summarizes data including ridership, passenger overloads, service reliability, and customers' input to support recommendations for service modifications, and prepares related charts and reports.
  • Meets and communicates with members of the public to respond to questions on subjects relevant to METRO service.
  • Provides assistance in responding to requests from the public or outside agencies.
  • Attends rider forums, public hearings, and other necessary functions.
  • Analyzes schedules and identifies areas for improvement to enhance service efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Abstracts bus route nodes and segments, calculates running times and mileage, and calculates and constructs headways.
  • Assists in the development of single branch route schedules using Trapeze scheduling system.
  • Assists in preparing public timetables and marketing pieces for public dissemination.
  • Prepares for and assists with administering bus and rail operator sign-up.
  • Maintains operator comfort station and route destination sign codes in Trapeze.
  • Assists with other departmental efforts to develop materials communicating the implementation of transit service programs and modifications.
  • Provides staff support and coordinates on various projects with other divisions.
  • Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures in an effort to reduce or eliminate accidents.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications/ Requirements: 
Associate Arts (AA) degree with coursework in GIS and statistics. Bachelor's degree in transportation
planning, public administration, urban planning or a related field preferred. A combination of education and related experience may be considered in lieu of education requirements.

Minimum one (1) year experience in planning, GIS or technical data analysis.

Interpretive ability of technical data and knowledge of basic statistics. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Working knowledge of PC's and related software (MS Office). Knowledge of ArcGIS software. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred. Must be a self-starter.

Community Engagement Coordinator, ONE Neighborhood Builders - Providence, RI


Community Engagement Coordinator
ONE Neighborhood Builders (formerly Olneyville Housing Corporation) seeks a qualified candidate for its Community Engagement Coordinator vacancy.  This position will promote ONE NB’s comprehensive neighborhood revitalization agenda in Elmwood and Olneyville.  This is accomplished through community-building activities, convening agencies to work collaboratively and share information, organizing residents and building resident leadership. 

The Community Engagement Coordinator is a full-time position and will report to Director of Community Initiatives.
Specifically, the Community Engagement Coordinator will:
  1. Assist in creating partnerships between families, residents, neighborhood-based organizations, faith-based organizations, city/state government, health and human service providers, community development corporations, job training, and educational institutions, housing, local businesses and other community assets.
  2. Share data and provide access to information for the benefit of residents, groups, organizations and institutions.  Compile, assemble and distribute stories about the neighborhoods community building, planning and implementation process.
  3. Organize and coordinate neighborhood meetings specific to community building and quality of life planning.   Attend neighborhood meetings to identify opportunities for collaboration and value add opportunities for ONE NB.
  4. Engage in neighborhood events for outreach and public relations.
5.     Write, publish and mail newsletters and other communications that advance these goals.
6.     Support the resident-led Olneyville Safer Streets Association and Elmwood Crime Watch by attending the monthly meetings, helping the facilitator develop the meeting agenda, and conducting outreach to maximize attendance.
7.     Conduct one-to-one meetings with residents and community stakeholders to build trust, gather information, and encourage their engagement in neighborhood activities and problem-solving.
8.     Work with the Director of Community Initiatives to ensure the desired outcomes of ONE NB’s RI Department of Health and US Department of Justice multi-year contracts are achieved.   Manage and support three Olneyville Block Captains and other elements of those two programs that depend on resident engagement.
9.     Assist in the coordination of the Olneyville Collaborative, a coalition of 30+ members who work together to share information, promote pride in the Olneyville neighborhood, and ensure scarce resources are stretched wisely and services are not unduly duplicated.  Plan and execute the two signature community events sponsored by the Olneyville Collaborative (Fall Fest and Olneyville Shines).
10. Assist with posting news and announcements to ONE NB’s website, Constant Contact, Facebook, and Twitter.
11. Assist in advancing the Olneyville neighborhood campaign; I Am My Neighbor’s Keeper.

The Democracy at Work Institute (Institute) seeks an experienced, self-directed, and collaborative person to join our dynamic national organization supporting the field of worker cooperative development. The Local Initiatives Organizer will support efforts to mobilize policies and resources, as well as build capacity for scaled cooperative development at the local level in cities across the country.
Essential Duties
Assessment, Strategy Development and Relationship-Building
  • Conduct a listening and assessment project to understand the strengths, needs and gaps of various local organizing efforts to promote worker ownership in cities across the country.
  • Distill and share with our staff lessons learned from cities where the Institute is playing an active support role.
  • Play an ear-to-the ground role in local organizing efforts: maintain regular communication with local contacts and stay up to date on all the local cooperative development initiatives, city interest, and possibilities across the country.
  • Identify and build relationships with key actors supporting worker cooperative development at the local and national level.
  • Work with Institute staff, local actors, and local and national partner organizations to develop and refine place-based strategies for supporting scaled worker cooperative development.
Policy strategy
  • Work with our staff and outside consultant to support the creation and replication of model resolutions and policies.
  • Manage on-line dissemination of sample and model policies and resolutions, as well as tools for collective impact.
Capacity-Building
  • Work with the Institute team to develop trainings and provide technical assistance to help build the capacity of local cooperative developers and other partner organizations.
  • Support the creation of tools, curriculum and outreach materials specific to policy development, organizing, power mapping, equity and accessibility, ecosystem analysis, collective impact.
Ecosystem Development
  • Present or coordinate presentations to a variety of partners on various cooperative development models and strategies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with other organizations in the support ecosystem for worker cooperatives: business advisors, capital providers, government agencies, and technical assistance providers, etc.
  • Participate in meetings, work groups, and projects of local worker cooperative groups and coalition(s), actively supporting a collaborative, strategic approach.
Outreach, Public Relations
  • Do outreach, attend events and give presentations to cooperative developers, economic development officials, small business support centers, and other stakeholder groups.
  • Recruit, train and supervise an "organizing corps" in 2-3 cities to do basic education and awareness-raising about worker cooperatives as a community wealth building strategy.
  • Communicate lessons learned from local organizing initiatives to the field through a variety of means such as writings and conference presentations.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests for information.
Qualifications
  • Organizing: Experience in community or labor organizing, power mapping, grassroots mobilization, and/or participatory community needs assessment is required.
  • Worker cooperatives: Interest in worker cooperatives and other democratic employee ownership structures is required; experience with these business models is strongly preferred. You must be willing to become fluent in the basics of cooperative business functions (business planning and feasibility, equity and capital structures, governance and management functions, etc.) in order to communicate about them knowledgably to a variety of audiences.
  • Community economic development: Background in economic development, community economic development, urban planning, and municipal policy is strongly preferred.
  • Communication and training: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, including presentation and training skills, and familiarity with participatory and popular education. Strong phone skills and ability to build relationships remotely are key to success in this position.
  • Diplomacy and discretion: Strong diplomatic skills and judgment are required in this position. You need to be able to both see possibility and ask hard questions with respect and discretion.
  • Equity lens and cultural competency: You must be able to communicate with a broad range of people and institutions confidently and effectively, with a critical analysis of power, privilege, race, class and gender.
  • Bilingual: The ability to speak both English and Spanish proficiently is required.
  • Self-management: Our staff is highly autonomous. You should be a self-starter, comfortable taking initiative, scoping projects, managing priorities and time, and holding yourself accountable to realistic goals, with the support of co-workers committed to your success.
Commitment: This is a full-time job, based in either our Oakland or New York City offices. A substantial amount of travel is expected, averaging one trip per month.

We're hiring Part-time Outreach Representatives!
The Riders Alliance is seeking responsible and outgoing people to conduct community outreach in Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan, with specific campaigns in Flushing, Jamaica, and Woodhaven, and Bed-Stuy. This position is perfect for students or individuals with flexible schedules looking to engage different communities in New York City on important campaigns for bus and subway improvements.
The outreach representative will work with our canvassing director and organizers to coordinate canvassing operations. You will be briefed about the campaigns and trained in community outreach techniques.

Part Time Bilingual Field Interviewer, The School of Social Service Administration at The University of Chicago - Chicago, IL


Part Time Bilingual Field Interviewer
The School of Social Service Administration at The University of Chicago is currently seeking a part time, temporary, field interviewer to conduct research interviews with study participants. This is an exciting two-year project that will examine the efficacy of a clinical innovation to advance home visiting services.
Job Description: Under close supervision, the interviewer will help with research tasks that include: screening, consenting, and tracking study participants; setting up interview appointments; and, conducting and recording research interviews.  Interviews are conducted in participants’ homes.
 Qualifications and Requirements
·       High School diploma (Bachelor's degree or college coursework in social science or related field preferred)
·       Previous data collection or field interviewing experience highly preferred
·       Proficiency with computers and access to the internet
·       Access to a car and proper driver’s license and insurance coverage
  • Must be available to work approximately 10 - 15 hours/week on a flexible schedule including week nights and weekends. Work hours will vary by week
