Position Overview

Responsibilities

Qualifications

Requirements: 
  • 4-year degree in Urban Planning or related field 
  • Masters degree in Planning preferred 
  • 5-10 years experience with transit planning 
  • Thorough knowledge of transportation planning practices and procedures. 
  • Proficiency in utilizing PC and various software packages typically used in urban/transportation/environmental planning assignments is required. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a thorough understanding of local statutes and environmental rules and regulations 
  • Technical and proposal writing experience required 
  • GIS skills a plus

PDS is one of six departments that make up the County's Land Use and Environment Group (LUEG). THE POSITION: Land Use/Environmental Planner II's independently perform a wide scope of environmental and/or planning projects characterized by having moderate public controversy, and of moderate complexity such as major use permits, tentative maps, variances, environmental impact reports, rezones or county-wide policy and ordinance changes, updates to the General Plan or special projects. This includes conducting research and data analysis to develop goals and policy recommendations for adoption by decision-making bodies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency, in city and regional planning, urban planning, aviation management, landscape architecture, geography, archeology, biology with a concentration in wildlife and/or botany, geology; or any one of the following life and physical sciences, geography with a concentration in conservation of environmental quality, natural resources, or physical geography; ecology, zoology; engineering with an emphasis in acoustics or environmental management, environmental science, or a related field.
AND

  • Should possess a background in GIS with “hands-on” experience using ArcGIS 10.3 or later or other similar software. This experience should include managing GIS data files, preparing GIS maps based maps and exhibits, converting coordinate data and other non-GIS data to appropriate GIS formats and projects, and working with project teams to understand how best GIS can be utilized.
