Responsibilities include (but not limited to): 

• Developing short-range plans for implementation of new or modified routes, discontinuance of unproductive service, amenity improvements, capital needs, and coordination projects with other public transit and community transportation services. 
• Coordinating with the GoTriangle Service Planning Team and with other technical and administrative staff of local bus and community transportation systems, university transportation services, local governments and appropriate State and Federal officials. 
• Researching and identifying potential funding sources for short-range plan improvements. 
• Devising, administering and/or analyzing surveys of transit customers, employees, and the general public. 
• Analyzing a variety of transit performance and fare media data and making recommendations for new or revised services or fare policies; preparing reports summarizing the findings of the analysis. 
• Initiating schedule or fare changes to meet customer demand. 
• Assembling related statistical data and compiling reports. 
• Producing written documents based on research, analysis and incorporation of stakeholder feedback. 
• Managing consultant studies, including the preparation of requests for proposals, selection of consultants and supervision of consultant work. 
• Generating maps and analyzing spatial data using GIS software. 
• Preparing Board presentation materials and presenting reports or proposals to interdepartmental committees, governmental meetings and public groups. 
• Coordinating public involvement activities soliciting public feedback on service plan and fare policy proposals with staff from Government and Community Relations Department.

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in planning, or related field and moderate experience in progressively responsible transportation or land use roles, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

The ideal candidate has a comprehensive understanding of transportation planning techniques, including statistics and survey techniques, standard office equipment and related hardware and software. A general knowledge of standard GIS software and equipment is required. The individual must have the ability to analyze data concerning ridership, demographics, spatial information, costs and revenues along with the ability to exercise independent judgment in the analysis and solution of complex route and schedule problems, using logical reasoning and good judgment.

Candidate must exhibit leadership skills to include the ability to direct the work of others, train and motivate staff. Excellent interpersonal skills are required to effectively communicate, orally and in writing. This individual is detail oriented, has good time management skills and multi tasks effectively. Must be comfortable with giving professional presentations.

The salary range for this position is $49,400-$87,900 and a comprehensive benefits package is offered.

THE POSITION: The PSRC is seeking an Associate Planner to perform a variety of tasks and activities that support the implementation of transportation projects in the central Puget Sound region. The position will provide general assistance and support to the Short-Range Transportation Planning Department, with a particular focus on the regional Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and the delivery of transportation investments funded by PSRC’s Federal Transit Administration funds. The position will be responsible for a range of qualitative and quantitative work.

This work will include, but is not limited to the following tasks:

• Leading PSRC’s FTA funding programs, including facilitating discussions and providing staff support to advisory committees;

• Reviewing financial information, schedules and milestones of transportation projects;

• Communicating a range of transportation-related topics and issues, both in writing and presentations;

• Identifying issues and developing resolutions for transportation projects;

• Assisting with the implementation of federal transportation requirements and regional policy. The Associate Planner will research, analyze, summarize and validate data and prepare final reports for presentation and publication.

THE CANDIDATE: 
The ideal candidate will have:

• Knowledge of federal and state transportation funding programs.

• Knowledge of transportation project requirements, such as environmental approval, permitting, right of way processes, etc.

• Ability to perform data analysis and research, synthesize and summarize analytic processes and findings, and make recommendations.

• Excellent attention to detail, organization, and problem solving skills.

• Experience developing reports and graphics for presentations.

• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and with the general public and transportation professionals.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

• Bachelor’s degree in planning, civil engineering, or related field.

• Two years increasingly responsible experience in transportation planning, grants management or related field.

• Or, any combination of education and experience that would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and abilities required to perform the job.

Transportation Planners, MTA New York City Transit - New York City, NY

The MTA New York City Transit Division of Operations Planning is seeking
transportation planners. The position will be responsible for helping to
plan short and long-term changes to the NYC bus route network including
Local, Limited, Express, and/or Selected Bus Service.  The incumbent will
develop and maintain a database of service and ridership information for
planning purposes, prepare reports recommending new or restructured bus
routes and services, including ridership projections, customer and
operations impacts, and operating costs.  The position may also assist in
the analysis and management of various long-range planning studies, such as
Alternatives Analyses and Environmental Impact Statements and coordination
with other NYCT departments, other MTA agencies, and external contacts.
The successful candidate is expected to do field work throughout New York
City and to represent NYC Transit at public meetings.
