JOB CODE/POSITION #: #M588-724 HOURS OF WORK: 37.5 hour workweek DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of the Land Use and Zoning Project Planner, the Zoning Associate Planner will conduct project work and analysis for the City on topics related to urban development, land use and zoning.
Specific responsibilities include the following:
  • Review and analyze proposed amendments to the Zoning Ordinance. 
  • Review and analyze development proposals requiring Planning Board approval. 
  • Engage with members of the public, property owners and their representatives to provide information about provisions of the Zoning Ordinance. 
  • Participate in planning studies and projects with components relating to urban development, land use planning or zoning. 
  • Perform other project duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree and five years’ experience preferably in urban planning, architecture, real estate or related field required. Master’s degree in City Planning and three years’ experience preferred. Good interpersonal skills are essential. Excellent presentation, written and oral communication skills. Ability to work well individually and on interdisciplinary project teams. Demonstrated familiarity with zoning law and practice required, Massachusetts experience preferred. Requires working familiarity with standard computing systems including Microsoft Office suite. Experience with graphics production software (such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, SketchUp) and/or GIS software (such as ArcGIS) are desirable. Good graphic and visual presentation skills are desirable.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work involves frequent evening meetings, requiring traveling to and through the city to project locations, driving, and walking. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involved is both indoors in a professional office setting and outdoors at project sites.
RATE: $54,071 - $76,347/year + excellent benefits
