Water Resources Program Manager, NWF - Multiple Locations

The National Wildlife Federation is seeking a Water Resources Program Manager to advance water resources-related projects and policy advocacy efforts for the National Wildlife Federation and provide important leadership and coordination for the Water Protection Network. As the Water Resources Program Manager, you will advance water resources-related projects and policy advocacy efforts for the National Wildlife Federation and lead key activities for the Water Protection Network (www.waterprotectionnetwork.org). This work will amplify and leverage the organization’s project and policy expertise to improve water resources planning and advance nature-based solutions to protect people and wildlife. This role reports to the Legal Director, Water Resources and Coasts.

Responsibilities include conducting relevant research and helping to develop policy positions and advocacy strategies for water resources-related issues nationwide, contributing to the Federation’s work to advance nature-based solutions with a particular focus on the Mississippi River system, and managing and increasing the effectiveness of the Water Protection Network. The Manager will collaborate with national, regional, and local colleagues, NWF affiliates, partner organizations, and federal agencies. Developing and deploying water resources subject-matter expertise and expanding and deepening collaborative relationships with partners will both be central to your role.

Principal Duties (Major Areas of Responsibility):

Advance Water Resources Policy and Project Advocacy

  • Support NWF’s Legal Director for Water Resources and NWF's Mississippi River initiatives, including through conducting factual and policy research, with a focus on wetland, floodplain, and river protection and management carried out by the Army Corps of Engineers and Environmental Protection Agency.
  • Support efforts to advance nature-based solutions, protect wildlife habitat, and improve water quality on the ground across the Mississippi River mainstem states.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise on issues related to Army Corps of Engineers authorities, policies, and projects.  Advise teammates on opportunities to advance nature-based solutions and improved water resources health through policy and practice.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key water resource decision-makers, with a focus on Corps of Engineers and the Mississippi River basin. Engagement with Congress is also expected.
  • Prepare reports and other written products and help disseminate key findings to professional and general audiences.
  • Represent NWF in relevant internal and partner coalition meetings and conversations.

Lead and Coordinate the Water Protection Network

  • Spearhead NWF’s effort to increase the effectiveness of the Water Protection Network (WPN) and strategically bring in new members.
  • Coordinate WPN's leadership and WPN members; help develop and implement campaign plans consistent with the WPN priorities established by the WPN leadership and membership.
  • Act as point of contact for the WPN and handle communications to the Network. Maintain the WPN website with up-to-date information and manages the WPN listserv.
  • Organize and facilitate WPN events, including potential WPN virtual and in-person meetings, webinars, trainings, and workshops.
  • Assist in fundraising for the WPN.

Provide Team Support for the Water & Coasts Program

  • Collaborate with teammates to support NWF’s broader organizational efforts to advance protections for clean water and wetlands, as requested.
  • Provide organizational and administrative support to NWF’s Water & Coasts team, including organizing meetings and events, advancing the Water & Coasts team’s environmental justice plan, tracking progress towards grant deliverables, and assisting with grant writing and reporting.

Qualifications:

  • At least five years' experience in either natural resource policy or campaign management, outreach and coalition building. 
  • Degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Science or Policy, or related field; post-graduate degree and/or relevant work experience desirable.
  • Familiarity with federal agency processes, programs, and policies related to environmental protection and restoration, with familiarity with the Army Corps of Engineers preferred. 
  • Experience with policy research and analysis.
  • Capacity to strategically conceive and manage campaigns with clear objectives, benchmarks, and deliverables in accordance with deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including attention to detail and the ability to distill complex technical information into messaging that is accessible to the public and decisionmakers.
  • Experience in leadership positions with coalitions or NGO partnerships strongly preferred.
  • High degree of initiative, ability to be a self-starter, and ability to accomplish projects with little supervision.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with an ability to identify and solve complex issues.
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills with the ability to find common ground and develop collaborative, productive, respectful relationships with diverse interests, including decision-makers, environmental justice and indigenous communities, and conservation organizations.
  • Proficiency in using various tech tools, such as Excel, Mailchimp, Word Press, HubSpot, Microsoft Suites, and Airtable.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with an integrated and diverse team of professionals.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and/or experience working on equity and justice related issues.

Introduction – Old Town Merchants and Residents Association 

The Old Town Merchants and Residents Association is a 501(c)(6) community organization that functions simultaneously as a chamber of commerce and residential association in the Old Town neighborhood of Chicago. Our goal is to continue Old Town’s evolution as a safe and vibrant place to live, work, and laugh. The association organizes events through the year, including the Wells Street Art Festival and Networking events. OTMRA is a delegate agency of the City of Chicago and the Sole Service Provider for Special Service area #48. 

Introduction – Special Service Area #48 – Old Town

 Special Service Areas (SSAs) are locally controlled, locally funded taxing districts used for local community development. They are governed by local taxpayers, and the funds generated are used for programs related to public way beautification and maintenance, enhanced security, snow removal and landscaping services. 

Old Town SSA #48 was established on December 9, 2009, and was reconstituted in 2018. On January 1, 2019, the boundaries of SSA #48 were expanded and granted a 15-year extension. There are eight active Commissioners.

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Program Manager oversees the operations of Special Service Area #48 and ensure that all services and programs are effectively managed and implemented. The Program Manager is an employee of the Old Town Merchants and Residents Association with primary duties and responsibilities to SSA #48. Position Overview:

Serve as the Prison + Neighborhood Arts/Education Project’s Program Manager (PM) to provide faculty/class coordination for all PNAP initiatives taking place at Stateville Correctional Center. The Program Manager also provides administrative support to the organization and each area of PNAP’s work including arts/exhibitions, University Without Walls, and the Think Tank as well as other community-building initiatives, as it pertains to coordination with Stateville.

Primary Responsibilities:

·        Schedule classes, think tanks, lecture series, UWW advisor visits, and mid-semester faculty meetings;

·        Recruit, onboard, and support faculty in conjunction with BoD teaching committee and director of university curriculum

·        Coordinate faculty placement and selection

·        Purchase materials and printing course books for classes;

·        Coordinate and secure clearances of faculty and guests with prison chaplains;

·        Coordinate and secure gate passes with prison chaplains;

·        Correspond with students around classwork at Stateville regarding student questions and requests;

Preferred Qualifications

·        At least five years experience in program management for community-based organizations or higher-education administration

In this role you will work on:

Speaker Research
  • Identify and research diverse CGI U speaker ideas for CGI U year-round programs. 
  • Organize and facilitate community brainstorming sessions to help inform program speakers, content, and format. 
External Engagement
  • Manage speaker recruitment and engagement processes which include maintaining a database of potential speakers that span a wide range of backgrounds and expertise areas
  • Oversee vetting, drafting invitation language, extending, tracking, and following up on speaker invitations
  • Act as the point of contact for speaker logistics-related information and support for in-person and virtual convenings, including travel and hotel accommodations processes and budget in lead up to annual meeting
  • Draft, update and organize session briefings, speaker assets and information; and oversee on-site registration, virtual event arrangements and overall event execution. 
  • Input and track all speaker data and session information in the BBCRM database, online forms, event website, the speaker invitation tracker, or other tools and data management systems when necessary. 
Internal Coordination
  • Work across Foundation teams and initiatives to manage speaker invitation outreach and engagement
  • Coordinate across internal teams in the lead up to events for speaker related assets, including working with Marketing and Communications to provide and review speaker information for press releases and the website. 
  • Work with production vendors and external partners to prepare event materials and provide necessary speaker information
  • Work with the CGI U Director of Programs, broader CGI U team and event management and production teams to provide relevant program updates to the master production schedule
  • Manage speaker logistics on-site and online during CGI U events, including delegating roles and responsibilities to additional volunteers or speaker support staff, and monitoring production logistics to enhance execution of event and a high-quality experience for speakers. 
Content Creation Support
  • Work closely with CGI U's Director of Programs, draft content for CGI U programming, including program memos, session descriptions, moderator questions and webinars. 
  • Compile, format and prepare speaker briefing materials. 
Project Management and Process Support
  • Streamline and organize recordkeeping and speaker data base management and lead efforts to develop and create tools to receive, process and manage speaker requests across initiatives and entities. 
  • Work to create synergies across the CGI U team and with other Clinton Foundation initiatives. 
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Required:
  • Bachelor's degree required, and/or a minimum of 6 years relevant work experience; including at least 2 years of general project/program management experience
  • 2-3 years of direct experience in non-profits or event management and design preferred
  • Project management experience
  • Familiarity with high-level conferences and/or event management also preferred
  • Proficiency in CRM software
  • Experience creating written content and communicating to a diverse range of stakeholders
Compensation & Benefits

Our best estimate of the compensation range for this opportunity is $69 – 74K annually, depending on the experience you bring. Youth Advisory Council, Program Manager - Comic Relief - New York

About the job

Comic Relief US’s (CRUS) Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is composed of trail-blazing young leaders from communities most impacted by poverty, from across the US and globally. The YAC is engaged in our annual grantmaking process and the holistic program consists of workshops, public speaking opportunities at virtual events, a mentorship program, and the launch of a new fund. The inaugural YAC Juntanza “grantmaking” Fund launched in 2021 and ignites intergenerational social change by centering the voice and vision of marginalized youth globally. The Juntanza Fund supports youth-led programs focused on the critical challenges that emerged for young people during the COVID-19 pandemic including hunger, access to quality education and mental health services. This participatory grantmaking strategy further enhances CRUS’s commitment to new, innovative approaches to achieve the organization’s mission of a just world free from poverty.

 

The YAC Program Manager is the YAC program lead and will oversee the development and implementation of YAC 2.0 with support from the YAC Consultant and CRUS Grants team. This role is essential to ensuring the YAC’s successful transition from a pilot program into a sustainable, permanent program within CRUS. The YAC Program Manager will lead on the recruitment of new YAC 2.0 council members, the development and implementation of the annual program including the Juntanza Fund grants portfolio, and facilitate up to 2 monthly meetings and workshops with the YAC. This role will support CRUS’ thought leadership goals and will work in partnership with YAC members and CRUS teams to develop new creative content and communications opportunities. This position will report to the VP, Grant Programs.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

YAC Program Management (65%)

  • Develop, execute, and facilitate the 4 pillars of the YAC program (Workshops and Curriculum, Mentorship program, Juntanza Fund, Thought leadership and Communications) with the VP, Grant Programs and Consultant:
  • Design program model for Cohort 2: program timeline, refined curriculum, candidate guidelines, application process and tools
  • Review the draft evaluation plan and survey for Cohort 2 (baseline, interim, final)
  • Lead the selection process for Cohort 2
  • Curate and lead workshops with co-facilitators or guest speakers
  • Ensure that the YAC is anchored in trusting relationships and has ample opportunities for YAC members to grow and exercise their leadership
  • Recruit a new cohort each year and continue to engage YAC alumni
  • Manage the YAC annual program budget

 

Juntanza Fund Grants Management & Grantee Relationships (20%)

  • Oversee the participatory grantmaking of the Juntanza Fund to ensure a timely and seamless process with the leadership of the council members. In partnership with the Grants team and Consultant:
  • Refine and define the Juntanza Fund goals and expectations for year 2
  • Refine the proposed application and selection process; coordinate with key CRUS staff on the legal/financial process
  • Review and recommend reporting process for final grantees
  • Identify/invite youth-led organizations to apply for grants
  • Conduct an initial review of grant applications
  • Support Cohort 2 in their review/approval of final Juntanza Fund grantees
  • Provide input on executive summaries for top 8-10 grant candidates to be recommended to the Grants Committee/Board
  • Support Cohort 2 in the design and delivery of their presentation and recommendations to the Grants Committee/Board
  • Manage the YAC email account and respond to inquiries from Juntanza Fund grantees
  • Review, with voluntary support from YAC members, interim and final Juntanza Fund year 2 grant reports
  • Support internal learning opportunities about participatory grantmaking, impact and relevant issues
  • Collect and maintain data in Foundant; run reports on impact data as required
  • Conduct research and assess concept notes/proposals for potential Juntanza Fund Grantee Partners, as needed

 

Thought Leadership, Communications and Stakeholder Engagement (10%)

  • Collaborate across CRUS teams to connect YAC members to external speaking & professional development opportunities
  • Collaborate across CRUS teams to integrate the YAC program and members into the rest of the organization
  • Serve as a consultative partner to other departments looking to leverage YAC work, youth-led / participatory frameworks, including providing feedback on CRUS content
  • Research and write issue briefs/talking points for senior leaders that pertain to the work of the YAC
  • Play key roles in coordination, content and design of YAC thought / field leadership gatherings in the participatory grantmaking field and with other youth councils / leaders

Grants Team (5%)

  • Maintain the Grants team and CRUS apprised of key YAC updates and activities
  • Supervise and project manage any interns or junior consultants who may be hired to support the YAC

These responsibilities, as outlined, are not meant to imply that these are the only duties to be performed by the Program Manager. S/he is expected to perform other duties as requested by his or her supervisor.

 

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • A minimum of 5 years of proven experience with participatory grantmaking and/or developing and managing successful programs in the nonprofit or philanthropic sector that advance equity and justice initiatives for children and young people
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting Black, Brown, Indigenous, Asian Pacific Island, queer, disabled, and undocumented youth leaders in advancing equity and justice initiatives for children and young people
  • Demonstrated commitment through lived and/or work experience, educational background, and volunteer experience to poverty alleviation and social justice
  • Experience working virtually with youth ages 15-25 of diverse backgrounds; strong personal commitment to equity and inclusion
  • Strong participatory leadership, management and organizational development skills
  • Strong analytical, written, and oral communication/presentation skills with great attention to detail
  • Digital platform management proficiency
  • Collaborative working style with commitment to the highest standards of ethics and confidentiality
  • Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding and digital security best practices, particularly as it relates to children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field is required
  • Fluency in a second language is ideal
