Transportation Air Quality Planner I & II - Dallas-Fort Worth MPO (2 positions)

Who: The North Central Texas Council of Governments - Transportation Department - Air Quality Planning and Operations

What: The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) Transportation Department is seeking an entry- or mid-level Air Quality Planner to assist with the creation and implementation of innovative emissions reduction strategies to improve air quality in the North Central Texas Region. A successful candidate should have an interest in environmental impacts of transportation as well as alternative fuels. Specific projects include, but are not limited to, the Dallas-Fort Worth Clean Cities Coalition and Electric Vehicles North Texas initiatives. Typical initiatives include a wide range of vehicle and technology programs, research and demonstration projects, and regional air quality policies. Work is collaborative in nature, working not only within the NCTCOG team, but also with external stakeholders, including fleets, citizen groups, and associations.

The Research Center supports Metro’s officials and staff and their activities by building and applying a variety of data, tools and methods to enrich people’s understanding of the region and assist them in making sound long-term decisions. The Research Center Director organizes and leads the activities of the Research Center as it provides objective and reliable data, tools, and analysis to support decision making at Metro and across the region.
Director’s Role
The Research Center Director provides vision, management, and leadership to the department so that it can achieve its key goals:
  • Make strategic investments in staff, data, and tools to support emerging issues
  • Perform relevant, timely analysis to inform decisions
  • Ensure long-term financial sustainability and technical capacity
  • Provide excellent customer service
The Director must have excellent technical and communication skills in order to build effective partnerships and support elected councilors, senior management at Metro, and other organizations and private agencies throughout the region with regard to the use of data and analysis to inform decision making. 

The Director will have a proven track record of collaborative technical work in the public sector and with teams specializing in geospatial analysis, mapping, performance management, travel and land use modeling, emission analysis, and land use development and system monitoring.
This executive level position reports directly to the Metro Deputy Chief Operating Officer and serves as a member of the executive management team.
