This is a unique opportunity to join a nationally renowned municipal water agency poised for significant change, unprecedented collaborations and the opportunity to positively affect water supply issues for future generations. 

Established in 1918, Denver Water is Colorado’s oldest and largest water utility. Today, Denver Water serves more than 1.3 million people – about 25 percent of Colorado’s population – with less than 2 percent of the water used in the state; and, provides water service to residents beyond Denver’s city limits through contractual relationships with distributors. 

Appointed by and reporting to the CEO, the Director of Planning is responsible for functions relating to raw water development planning and operation; water rights analysis, protection and development; raw water, ground water and treated water modeling and analysis; hydraulic system planning; demographics, land use and plan review; serves as an ambassador for the CEO and the Board on water resource and environmental issues throughout the state, regionally and nationally; negotiates complex water resource, operational and environmental agreements; provides strategic direction and vision for planning the water supply future for Denver Water and its customers. 

The ideal candidate will bring a Bachelors’ and preferably advanced degree in business or public administration, urban or regional planning, water resource planning, law or engineering. Some exposure or familiarity with the technology tools of planning, such as GIS, modeling, etc., or related field; ten years’ experience, including four years in a senior managerial position, in a water agency or utility, or in a closely related water field, including responsibility for policy and managerial decision-making.

Responsibilities include assisting with planning studies that assess and document impacts to the natural environment, cultural resources, and human environment; conducting airport planning studies including environmental impact statements, environmental assessments, categorical exclusions, environmental overviews; and conducting noise and land use studies. Some travel will be necessary.
The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental studies, planning, engineering, architecture, aviation management, or a similar field.

About the Position: We are looking for a full-time associate who will be an integral part of our growing Denver office.  Primary responsibilities for this position will be to provide support for all aspects of the firm’s planning practice, including, but not limited to:

  • Advanced GIS analysis and mapping;

Requirements: The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of related professional experience. The candidate must be a strong writer with an eye for translating complex ideas and information into concise, user-friendly materials and documents. In addition, the candidate should have excellent oral English communication skills and be comfortable with public speaking. Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ArcGIS required. Knowledge of Sketch-Up, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and other graphics programs is a plus.

About the Position: We are looking for a full-time, mid-level professional who has the skills and experience to become an integral part of our challenging and rewarding zoning and plan implementation practice.  Experience with code drafting, detailed document review, public presentations, and project management are essential.  In addition, the successful candidate should have strong experience in document layout and graphics development.  Much of the work is technical and detail-oriented and candidates will be expected to meet high standards of professional quality and have excellent writing skills. Some travel is an essential part of our practice.
Requirements: The candidate must have a master’s degree in urban planning with a minimum of four years of practice experience.  In addition, a degree in urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, or the law would be helpful. Attorneys with experience in land use law may also be considered for this position.  The candidate must have excellent oral and written English communication skills and be able to work collaboratively.  The candidate should also be highly organized and detail-oriented. Project management experience is important.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.  Knowledge of ArcGIS, Sketch Up, InDesign, and Illustrator would also be very helpful.

OVERVIEW
This marketing department role has been designed to ensure the marketing efforts of Alta are well-supported.
POSITION PRIORITIES 
A general knowledge of proposals and the ability to meet competing priorities in a timely, accurate and complete manner is required in order to successfully meet the requirements of this position.
The essential priorities of this exempt, salaried position are to:
  • Coordinating proposal teams to respond to Requests for Qualifications and Requests for Proposals. Develop formal proposals including writing and editing some of the proposal, appropriately formatting and proofreading the proposals for presentation.
RESPONSIBILITIES + TASKS
Additional responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Developing and updating marketing collaterals including staff bios and resumes, emerging market documents and qualification documents.
  • Tracking and monitoring proposal efforts and activities ensuring timely delivery.
  • Assisting in the implementation of annual strategic plans.
  • Participating in market research and other creative projects such as white paper production, branding campaigns and newsletter development.
  • Contributing to website updates, social media feeds and blog posts; providing regular updates to the Alta Resource Center (ARC).

There are a number of additional skills, experience and education that would be beneficial to this position including, but not limited to:
  • Experience in a professional services firm.
  • Understanding of the planning and design process and enterprise-wide management tools.
