SENIOR PLANNER (COMMUNITY PLANNING)

This is an advanced professional level position requiring considerable experience and expertise to undertake complex planning projects. This individual will play an important role in shaping the future of Surrey.

The successful candidate will require significant experience and expertise to undertake a wide range of planning assignments, and will have responsibility to supervise Planners and Planning Technicians. Responsibilities include work on a range of planning assignments, including the development of Neighborhood Concept Plans and Town Centre Plans, taking a leading role in the Official Community Plan review, and the development of a range of citywide policies and guidelines including heritage, environmental and sustainable development policies. This role will require research and analysis of planning issues; preparation of reports and correspondence on a variety of planning items; participation on Task Forces and Planning Teams and the provision of advise to other staff in performing their duties.

Educational requirements include a degree in Planning, Architecture or a related field supplemented by courses recognized by the Canadian Institute of Planners as fulfilling the requirement for full membership. You have at least five years experience after a Master's Degree or seven years experience after a Bachelor's Degree. The successful candidate communicates effectively, has strong design skills, is experienced in managing a heavy workload and has well-developed public relations skills. Membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and/or Architectural Institute of British Columbia is desirable.
