Director, Center for Survey Research

Provides research services to faculty and administrators from the Bloomington, Indianapolis, and regional campuses of Indiana University as well as clients from state and federal agencies and faculty from other universities. The CSR is part of Indiana University's Consortium for Education and Social Science Research (cessr.indiana.edu) and reports to the Indiana University Bloomington Office of the Vice Provost for Research (www.research.indiana.edu).

Responsible for 30-40 survey projects conducted annually, including several major surveys. Manages 30+ professional, support, and telephone interview and clerical staff, and works closely with the CSR's clients to ensure projects are designed to meet specifications and the highest standards of survey research.

The director could be hired as a research scientist or as a tenure track/tenured faculty member in an appropriate school, based on qualifications. Job Requirements

PhD in the social sciences required with ideally 10 years of survey experience including qualitative and quantitative analysis for survey research, obtaining and directing large, externally-funded projects, and managing a professional staff. Entrepreneurial skills and ability to work with a diverse set of faculty, university administrators, and external clients are essential. Knowledge of current trends in Internet computing and database management and ability to analyze and improve survey operations and effectiveness required. The candidate should possess expertise in research design including cross-sectional, longitudinal, experimental, and quasi-experimental approaches, in addition to considerable expertise in sampling. Proficiency in contemporary methods for survey data collection and analysis, including expertise in scale development, theory construction, pre-post testing, time series, and other forms of research analysis are highly preferred.
