GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP: 25% Appointment at the Research Resources Center

Graduate Assistant position available starting Fall 2010

Job Description: Graduate Assistant at the Research Resources Center
(RRC). The contract term is from August 16, 2010 through May 15, 2011.
This is a 25% appointment, which requires a commitment to working ten
hours per week. The appointment provides a tuition waiver for the Fall
2010 and Spring 2011 terms. Potential exists for full time appointment
during Summer 2011.

Department Background: The RRC is a specialized service facility that
provides access to high-end research instrumentation and services to UIC
investigators at east and west campuses in various bio-medical research
disciplines including genomics, proteomics, transgenics, microscopy, and
imaging. Researchers can also purchase laboratory consumable supplies
through RRC’s Scientific Supply Center. Investigators at other academic
and non-academic institutions also utilize RRC services. Currently, 16
facilities provide almost 100 different services to researchers. RRC is
allowed to recharge for these services to offset its expenses. Since
FY2000, the depth and breadth of services has significantly grown and
resulted in approximately a 20-fold increase in revenue. A Graduate
Assistant is sought to assist monitoring and reporting on a specific
sub-set of these recharges.

Major Responsibilities:
1) complete and process invoices for accounts receivables to non-UIC
clients,
2) track accounts receivables status,
3) generate accurate and timely reports of outstanding receivables
including aging of receivables,
4) interact with University General Accounts Receivables staff,
5) interact with non-UIC clients and their Accounts Payables staff to
resolve payments of outstanding receivables,
6) update and manage RRC’s external billing database.

Requirements:
1) graduate student at UIC in good standing,
2) accounting background,
3) able to commit to ten hours per week for the appointment period,
4) exhibit a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word,
PowerPoint, Access),
5) computer literate,
6) organized and detail oriented,
7) able to work independently on assigned tasks,
8) effective written and oral communication skills,
9) able to work at RRC Administration located at the west campus (Medical
Sciences Building, 835 S. Wolcott, room E-102).
