Job Description

General Summary:
The Research Associate will report to the Vice President of Community, Government and International Affairs (CGIA). The Research Associate will follow education policy discussions and research grant opportunities. This position will build on the capacity of existing efforts by the CGIA staff and University. The Research Associate will ultimately serve the University's financial and outreach goals as well as be a voice in policy discussions.
The Office of Community, Government and International Affairs connects DePaul to Chicago and the world through three separate, but intersecting functions. The CGIA manages relationships with entities outside of the University including city, state, federal and international governments, as well as civic and community non-profit organizations and local and international educational institutions.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
· Identify and follow education policy discussions of interest in federal and state agencies through traditional and social medias, etc. (i.e. Department of Education, NAICU, FIICU, Inside Higher Ed, Chronicle of Higher Education, etc.)
· Strengthen the University's contribution to national panels and policy boards, by seeking out opportunities for University executives to showcase expertise on issues at local, regional, national and international conferences (ACE, NAICU, Department of Education, etc.).
· Develop, implement and manage a regular report on policy issues to inform the University community. (i.e. a web resource following trends and quarterly/monthly reports to the University).
· Prepare talking points for Executives of the University; including the President on issues and trends.
· Inform and serve academic sector in researching federal policy.
· Research federal/state policy opportunities in cooperation with academic affairs.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Requirements:
· 3-5 years of federal government policy research.
· Ability to work independently and be a self-starter.
· Knowledge of web research and search engine.
· Knowledge of higher education and public policy issues.
· Familiarity with social media.
Preferred Requirements:
· Master's Degree in Educational Policy, Public Policy, Public Administration or an equivalent field.
· Previous grant writing experience.
· Previous work in government or higher education.
