USDA Business Management Leaders Program

USDA Business Management Leaders Program

Overview

USDA is launching a Business Management Leaders Program with the desired outcome to recruit and retain a diverse group of the brightest and best individuals the labor force has to offer.

The USDA Business Management Leaders Program is a two-year career internship program. Upon successful completion of the program, individuals can be non-competitively placed in a permanent position within NRCS. Individuals can qualify for the program if they have a bachelors degree. This program is an intensive two-year program that provides a combination of formal training with rotational work assignments in financial management, human resources, and contracting. The interns may have job rotations with other USDA agencies, and the last rotation will be in the assigned specialty. Individuals in this program will travel extensively.

NRCS is planning to hire 100 college graduates in August, 2010. NRCS will be starting the first class of interns in Ft. Worth, TX in September. Subsequent classes will follow in Portland, Oregon and Greensboro, North Carolina.

The Business Management Leaders Program is being marketed to college graduates at both the bachelor’s and master’s degree levels, and current NRCS employees will also be eligible.

The program seeks to fill positions in various job series, including Safety and Occupational Health, Human Resources, Accounting and Budget, Acquisitions, and Information Technology. The program consists of a blend of formal education and on-the-job training over a two-year period that includes:
