The Greater North Michigan Avenue Association (GNMAA) is the leading community organization that represents and informs the many and diverse interests within its geographical boundaries - Randolph Street to North Avenue, Lake Michigan to the North Branch Canal. The Association seeks to preserve, promote and enhance a vibrant, growing and stable community by identifying, articulating and serving the needs of membership.
Originally named The North Central Association, the Association was formed in 1912 to provide unity and vision for the area. The Association's name was changed to The Greater North Michigan Avenue Association in 1942 to reflect the neighborhood's physical expansion of retail merchants, banks, real estate firms, office buildings and service organizations on the near north side. Ninety-six years later, the Association retains its original community spirit as volunteer led committees collaborate to preserve, promote and enhance the neighborhood through urban planning and advocacy, marketing and public relations, and member events and programs.
