Occupational Summary:
Candidate provides career services advising, programs and employer outreach for students in the Master of Public Policy program’s global concentration, supervised by the Director of Career Services. Candidate also oversees the internship process for participants on Sanford School’s summer program in Geneva.

Work Performed as International Career Services Program Coordinator:
Career Information Resource Person to MPP Global Concentration students
• Advise and coach individual students regarding their career goals and plans
• Provide workshops for students on career development topics such as networking and interviewing
• Review and edit resumes and cover letters for job and internship applications
• Arrange for employers to visit Duke and give information sessions
• Organize and present workshops for international students unfamiliar with U.S. job search process
• Oversee MPP and Geneva program LinkedIn pages and MPP Career Services Twitter site.

Organize the annual Professional Development Trip to Washington, DC
• Arrange all global policy workshops, identifying topics, securing speakers from alumni and employers in DC and arranging locations
• Help students set up individual informational interviews with potential intern sponsors

Develop relationships with potential employers and intern sponsors for MPP students
• Identify and learn about policy areas of interest to MPP Global students through reading and attending Sanford classes as needed.
• Identify and connect with employers in these areas both domestically and internationally
• Identify Duke alumni in areas of international policy and build connections for job and internship possibilities.

Identify international internship and job resources
• In collaboration with the Career Office’s Staff Assistant, identify and subscribe to appropriate email lists and websites, monitor these for listings appropriate to our students.
• Attend career fairs or conferences as appropriate

Work Specific to the Duke Summer in Geneva Program:
• Advise and assist individual Geneva Program participants in applying for internships in the four tracks of the Geneva program
• Coordinate internship efforts with track leaders in Geneva and individual participants
• Organize collection of participants’ applications for major Geneva organizations – gather application materials, proof, submit to organizations, and follow up
• Travel to Geneva to build and maintain relationships with internships providers and to present students to them for potential internship selection
• Communicate with participants’ home schools and programs to insure internship opportunities meet needs and expectations of students and their academic programs.
• Evaluate participants internship offers to insure quality experiences.
• Create and maintain database of internship providers and participants
• Resolve issues that may arise between internship sponsors and participants

Other Work Performed:
• Assist in the preparation of budgets, including Professional Development Trip to DC, programming, and employer outreach, publications.
• Implement programs within budgets as approved.
• Hire, supervise and recommend personnel actions for work study students and graduate assistants.
• Devise and implement ways to evaluate success of programming and provide an annual report and work plan based on these evaluations, in collaboration with Career Services staff team.
• Maintain relationships with appropriate professional organizations.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:
• Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree program. Relevant masters degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
• Work requires a minimum of three years of experience in academic, instructional or advising programs to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events for students. A relevant master’s degree such as public policy, international affairs, or student personnel may be substituted for 2 years of experience.
• Work requires an understanding of international culture and careers gained through work, volunteer experience and/or study abroad.
