ASSOCIATE PLANNER/PROJECT MANAGER

Mintier Harnish, Sacramento, CA - (Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with education and experience) – This is an excellent job opportunity for an experienced planner to work with both public agencies and private clients throughout California as part of a highly-skilled team.  We are a small firm with a great working atmosphere.  Our office is located in a Midtown Sacramento Victorian.

Mintier Harnish is a northern California planning consulting firm specializing in land use planning, including general plans, housing elements, specific plans, and special planning studies. Our current projects include general plan updates for several Bay Area and Central California cities and counties, housing element updates, zoning ordinance updates, and specialized planning and public policy projects.

The position requires familiarity with governmental organizations and procedures, California planning law, CEQA, planning and environmental theory and practice, and excellent research and writing skills.  Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, InDesign), Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop, and ArcMap GIS is required.  Experience in general plan and specific plan preparation is desirable.  Candidates must have a Masters Degree in planning or closely-related field and at least three years of planning-related experience, or a Bachelors degree in a planning or closely-related field and at least five years of planning-related experience. We will hire the successful candidate as either an Associate Planner or Project Manager, depending on the combination of qualifications and experience.

Project management and public outreach experience, creativity, and analytical aptitude are highly desirable. Assistant Professor, URBAN AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS

The Department of Urban and Public Affairs (UPA) at the University of Louisville invites applications for a tenure track appointment with a focus on Urban and Regional Planning. The position will begin August 1, 2016.  UPA offers three graduate degrees: Master of Urban Planning, Master of Public Administration, and a PhD in Urban and Public Affairs. This position will contribute primarily to the planning degree program, but faculty members participate in teaching, research and mentoring across all three degrees.

Qualifications for the position include: a Ph.D. in Urban Planning or related discipline, an emerging record of excellence in planning research; ability to teach in studio settings; AICP status (or the ability to obtain); experience in areas of planning and policy research in a collaborative academic setting; excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; an aptitude for working collaboratively with state and local governments; practitioner experience in planning settings; and an ability to work with community organizations and planning constituencies. Teaching expectations would include such core courses as Planning Theory and History and Land Use Planning. An ability to contribute to an existing Masters in Sustainability and a proposed undergraduate degree in Sustainability will be advantageous.
