This position is responsible for providing assistance for the development and implementation of the Main Street America Institute (MSAI), the National Main Street Center’s signature educational and training offering for advanced professional development in downtown and commercial district revitalization. The MSAI aims to provide a comprehensive, intensive yet convenient curriculum structure featuring both online and onsite coursework, and is focused on strengthening the knowledge and skills of our professionals in their efforts to lead successful revitalization programs.

The Education and Training Assistant is a part-time, temporary position which is anticipated to run from November 1, 2015 through May 31, 2016. The hours will range between 15 – 25 hours per week.
Duties
- Support the Manager of Content & Education and the Director of Leadership Development in launching the Main Street Institute in January 2016.
- Help coordinate and schedule regular Institute task force meetings and serve as the key point person for the group when necessary.
- Assist with the logistics of the in-person trainings and online trainings, including monitoring registration, handling content and materials, coordinating contracts and services, and serving as the primary liaison between the instructors and the Content & Education Manager.
- Assist with the tracking of the project budget and reporting duties as needed.
- Serve as a point of contact for the Institute participants and handle requests as needed.
- Assist with the communications and promotions of the Institute, including but not limited to posting content to the website and assisting with email marketing.
- Support the programs efforts to reach and engage with a larger, broader and more culturally diverse audience.
- Monitor participant satisfaction.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- At least 1-2 years of professional level experience, particularly in a matrixed and geographically dispersed non-profit.
- Experience helping to coordinate projects.
- Basic analytical and problem solving skills, including issue identification and prioritization.
- Basic project-organization skills. Ability to achieve results with moderate supervision.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Experience successfully interacting with key stakeholders.
- Ability to collaborate to achieve results.
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task efficiently and respond to a high volume of ongoing requests in a timely fashion. Strong organizational skills required.

The Vice President of Revitalization Programs will play a key leadership role in the National Main Street Center’s work to inspire and enable communities to build economically vibrant downtown and neighborhood commercial districts. This position will lead the launch of the renewed and re-imagined Four Point Approach, the Center’s signature revitalization framework. In this capacity, the Vice President will help existing Main Street communities transition to this new tool, as well as help the Center reach new communities with this refreshed framework. Overseeing the Field Services team, the Vice President will also lead the Center’s efforts to expand technical service offerings, and offer preservation-based economic revitalization services directly to communities.
As the CEO’s senior direct report, this position serves as a deputy, helping provide leadership for operational, financial and administrative functions of the Main Street Center, in support of and coordination with the CEO. In the absence of the CEO, the Vice President also may serve as the principal staff and Board liaison and, as assigned, serve as Acting CEO, acting in accordance with the role and responsibilities of the CEO. As the CEO’s senior direct report, this position serves as a deputy, helping provide leadership as needed for operational, financial and administrative functions of the Main Street Center, in support of and coordination with the CEO. In the absence of the CEO, the Vice President also may serve as the principal staff and Board liaison and, as assigned, serve as Acting CEO, acting in accordance with the role and responsibilities of the CEO.
The successful candidate will be an outstanding team player and manager, and be a thought leader in the field of economic development, able to offer critical insights and expertise on strategies that most effectively enable communities to revitalize their downtowns.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 20 years professional experience, including at least 12 years in progressively responsible senior management roles. Demonstrated experience executing successful non-profit organizational-development strategies and tactics.
- At least 12 years of experience leading large cross-departmental projects and teams, preferably in a national level, non-profit setting.
- Commercial revitalization subject area expertise; background with the Main Street Four Point Approach strongly preferred, with strong business acumen and analytic ability.
- Previous fundraising experience required, including strategic roles in grant writing and funder relationship management.
- Knowledge of organizational effectiveness strategies, leadership development, assessment methodologies, changes management and performance management solutions, with demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership.
- Self motivated, goal-oriented with a proven track record of results. Able to achieve significant high quality results with only minimal supervision, meaning general directions given with regular status checks.
- Excellent consulting and diagnostic skills, with ability to foresee and plan around obstacles to produce desired outcomes. Training, and experience training others, in project management methods a plus.
- Advanced analytical, problem solving (issue identification and prioritization) skills are essential for this role, plus the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis.
- Experience with analytics -- specifically with techniques such as data mining and forecasting.
- Advanced project management, department-management and client-management skills, with the ability to develop and execute short and long terms plans including the establishment of goals and outcome measures. Dependability essential, with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation, preferred.
- Demonstrated experience leading departments, as well as successfully managing key internal and external stakeholders and relationships. Proven ability to train, motivate and manage staff in a fast-paced, high-performing environment.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class is responsible for the professional and technical work related to municipal planning. The incumbent will assist in the preparation and implementation of municipal plans and programs which may include the comprehensive plan, housing programs, main street programs, Greenway compact, and farmland protection. The incumbent will also provide support for the Municipal Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals and the Municipal Board’s technical assistance efforts to other government agencies and assist other municipal departments in preparation for grant applications and environmental reviews. Employees in this class perform Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data analysis and Mapping, and the building and Maintenance of databases. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Building Department Director, with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative in work methods. Supervision is not normally a function of this class. Does related work as required. For the Village of New Paltz the related work will also include grant writing.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

- Assists in the development and delivery of a full range of municipal planning services;

The City of Tulsa seeks to fill three professional planning positions in the Planning Division. Positions all report directly to the Director of Planning & Development and are part of a core team of planners, technicians and project managers focused on the development and implementation of adopted long range plans for the City. - Excellent written and oral presentation skills

The ideal candidate for this role will have a clear working knowledge of administration of historic preservation regulations, reviews for permits or certificates of appropriateness, service as staff support to a preservation commission and managing Section 106 reviews related to use of federal funds. Knowledge of incentive and economic development programs and tools such as Main Street and Historic Tax Credits is preferred.
