| City Planner PLANNER Development Services/ Planning Division City of Carbondale This is a regular, full time professional urban planning position. Responsibilities include enforcement of the City's Zoning Ordinance, subdivision and site plan review, and coordination between various City departments on large scale projects. The planner will answer questions from the public concerning the City's development regulations, issue zoning certificates and other development approvals, and work with members of the public in preparing generalized development plans for public and private projects. The Planning Services Division staffs and prepares agenda items for the City's Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, and Preservation Commission. The planner will assist in implementing and conducting an annual review of the newly adopted Comprehensive Plan. The selected candidate will be responsible for preparing reports to the Planning Commission and serving as the staff contact for the Preservation Commission. Bachelors Degree in Urban and/or Regional Planning or a closely related field including but not limited to geography, political science, community development, architecture or landscape architecture and at least two years of responsible planning experience with a municipal or regional planning agency or with a consultant working with municipal or regional governments in the area of zoning administration, subdivision control, site plan review, historic preservation, and/or comprehensive planning. A Masters Degree may be substituted for work experience. AICP certification is highly desirable. Must have or obtain and maintain a valid Illinois driver's license.
