SALARY: $78,430.00 - $102,865.00 Annually OPENING DATE: 10/04/17 CLOSING DATE: 11/01/17 11:59 PM DESCRIPTION: The Director of Community and Council Engagement serves as the Planning and Development Department's liaison to the Department of Neighborhoods and City Council.  A key function of the role is to guide major development projects through the community feedback and City Council processes, while interacting extensively with internal and external stakeholders.   The Director of Community and Council Engagement will work closely with the other directors and project managers within the Planning and Development Department.   EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Coordinate with the Department of Neighborhoods in management of key community activities related to major development projects.  Work closely with staff across departments to ensure major development projects comply with all relevant city ordinances. Prepare messaging and communication related to major development projects in the City's process; manage logistics for key community meetings; collect and distribute key feedback from the community on planning projects and identify and escalate issues as needed. Articulate and elevate a vision for Detroit neighborhoods that embodies the highest quality of design excellence, sustainable and ecological performance and social equity for all Detroit residents. Ensure City Council members and staff are informed of key Planning and Development issues.  Ensure key PDD issues are on City Council agendas and presented in individual briefings, as may be desired. Respond to ad hoc requests and inquiries from City Council members and their staffs in partnership with planning staff as needed. Assists with the implementation of divisional goals, initiatives and plans. Manages project development and execution from inception to closure. Produces summarization reports, outputs Tracks and reports project milestones and status reports to project sponsors MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education  Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with major course work in business administration, public administration, public policy, urban studies, or a closely related field. Experience Four (4) years of professional experience with urban planning, physical neighborhood planning, urban design. Legal experience/background, desirable. Strong communication and inter-personal skills including the ability to develop presentations, create strong professional relationships and manage diplomatically the interests of multiple stakeholders. Strong project management skills, a sharp attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
