WHO WE ARE:

The Conservation Lands Foundation (CLF) is a national non-profit organization headquartered in Durango, Colorado, with team members based across various locations, including Alaska, Northern and Southern California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, and Washington, DC.

Established in 2007, CLF was founded on the belief that our public lands are best protected when there is a national network of local advocates working to advance a common conservation vision. CLF works hand-in-hand with 80 + grassroots groups - our Friends Grassroots Network - to protect the National Conservation Lands, our nation’s newest collection of premier lands and waters under the Bureau of Land Management (BLM)’s jurisdiction. These lands encompass 37 million acres and 2,400 miles of National Monuments and National Conservation Areas, Wilderness and Wilderness Study Areas, Wild and Scenic Rivers, and National Scenic and Historic Trails. They are found throughout the West and Alaska.

Our mission is to protect, restore, and expand the National Conservation Lands through education, advocacy, and partnerships.

Position Description:

The Public Lands Policy Associate Director will work closely with the Public Lands Policy Director to help develop and deliver campaign and policy strategies across the organization.

The Public Lands Policy Associate Director will implement strategies aimed at grassroots efforts to advance policy change to conserve, protect, and restore the National Conservation Lands; facilitate or convene meetings in partnership with the Public Lands Policy Director with stakeholders, grassroots advocates, and decision-makers to advance policy initiatives and campaigns; and assist with implementing and tracking key policy and advocacy strategies within the Conservation Lands Foundation.

Objectives and  Responsibilities:

Campaign Implementation

  • In partnership with the Public Lands Policy Director, develop and execute a policy strategy to advance the Conservation Lands Foundation’s mission and Strategic Plan.
  • Collaborate with the Public Lands Policy Director and the CLF Field Staff to identify and develop grassroots efforts to effect policy change through Bureau of Land Management land use planning processes. Facilitate, participate in, and represent CLF in various conservation campaigns.
  • Work with the communications team, program directors, and other internal and external partners to develop, coordinate, and implement regional communication strategies to support CLF’s policy agenda.

Policy Expertise and Training

  • Develop strong working relationships with individuals in the Bureau of Land Management who oversee planning.
  • In conjunction with the Public Lands Policy Director and Grassroots Engagement Associate Director, develop, coordinate, and implement strategies, trainings, workshops and webinars throughout the year to educate and engage the Friends Grassroots Network in policy and advocacy initiatives. Elevate and leverage grassroots power to achieve campaign goals.
  • Prepare technical background materials, including research and written reports, white papers, public comments and other content.

Administrative Support

  • Develop and implement a system for extracting data, metrics, and policy examples from resource management plans and other planning processes. This system should provide a quick look into policy trends and serve as a tool for ongoing policy campaigns.
  • Assist with internal check-in calls, review sign-on letters, track various campaign efforts and provide updates to CLF staff at the direction of the Public Lands Policy Director.
  • Participate in team and staff meetings, Board meetings, and the Friends Grassroots Summit. Serve as a supportive resource to Board members, donors, team members, and partners, offering guidance and assistance whenever needed.
  • Actively participate and support CLF’s equity, inclusion, and access work to help ensure it becomes embedded and continues to evolve as an organization-wide priority.

WHO YOU ARE:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; a degree in public policy, environmental science, law, or related environmental field a plus.
  • Commitment to the fundamental belief that change comes from communities, individuals, and groups closest to the places and issues we care about.
  • Preferred experience in conservation, campaigns, grassroots advocacy, renewable energy and community organizing.
  • Familiarity with relevant public land conservation and renewable energy policy issues is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and research skills. Ability to quickly grasp and understand complex issues.
  • Proficiency in technical writing.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with various internal and external partners.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet urgent and longer-term deadlines in a team setting.
  • Capability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  • Comfortable working remotely or in hybrid team-oriented environments, with the capacity to inspire cooperation among others.
  • Skilled in managing sensitive matters with discretion and sound judgment while consistently upholding confidentiality.

Salary Range:  $60,000-$70,000. (CLF operates on a 36-hour work week.)

The Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking applicants for the position of Associate Director to oversee and manage fundraising, outreach and cultivation of Chicago area donors and prospects and represent the work of Human Rights Watch.

The successful candidate may have the option to work remotely, but will be expected to work from the office about 1-2 days a week. We aim to be as flexible and supportive as possible in both the recruitment for and onboarding of this position.

Responsibilities:

  1. Represent the work of Human Rights Watch to existing and prospective supporters and maintain financial support in Chicago by soliciting major gifts and general support funds ranging from US $5,000-$100,000;
  2. Work in partnership with the Managing Director, North America on the fundraising strategy for the Chicago area and its implementation
  3. Oversee production, fundraising, outreach, and cultivation of inspiring engagement and solicitation events in Chicago, including the annual fundraising event, private dinners, receptions, and briefings;
  4. Work with the leadership of the Chicago Committee and local Board members to maximize opportunities to share the work of HRW, engage existing and potential donors, and peer-to-peer networking opportunities;
  5. Oversee gift processing and donor support services for Chicago in Salesforce alongside the Chicago Coordinator, including but not limited to maintaining rigorous records, mailings, gift tracking and acknowledgements;
  6. Supervise the Chicago Development Coordinator and liaise with event consultants;
  7. Manage fundraising-specific team processes, including regular team meetings; and
  8. Perform other responsibilities as may be required.

Managerial Responsibilities:

  1. Lead, motivate, and mentor direct-reports, including communicating clear expectations, setting performance objectives, providing regular and timely constructive feedback, ensuring balanced workload, providing guidance on professional growth, and monitoring staff well-being as it pertains to stress and resilience issues and self-care;
  2. Promote inclusive and positive work environment including by soliciting diverse points of views, encouraging staff to participate in DE&I efforts, and proactively addressing bias, discrimination, microaggressions, etc;
  3. Model inclusive behavior and consistently adhere to HRW’s internal values;
  4. Incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion values and initiatives into the division’s work; and
  5. Work with staff to develop initiatives aimed at movement-building and expanding our partnership with diverse clients/donors/stakeholders and partners.

Qualifications:

Education: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required.

Experience: A minimum of five to seven years of fundraising/event planning and management experience is required, with a preference for major gift fundraising.

Related Skills and Knowledge:

  1. Ability to effectively build relationships and engage with a variety of donors, committee members, colleagues, and board members is required.
  2. Proven effectiveness in one-on-one qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship is required.
  3. Excellent oral and written communications skills in English are required.
  4. Strong interpersonal skills in order to work collaboratively within HRW as well as with external partners are required.
  5. Ability to multi-task effectively, including having good planning and organizing skills and ability to work well under pressure are required.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to human rights and/or international issues and the capacity to master and represent the mission and programs of HRW are highly desirable.
  7. Strong computer skills are required. Experience with donor databases, specifically Salesforce, and knowledge of social media are highly desirable.
  8. An entrepreneurial spirit and the discipline to work independently, but also the ability to function as a member of a development team is highly desirable.

Salary and Benefits: HRW seeks exceptional applicants and offers competitive compensation and employer-paid benefits. The Highlights:

Provides support in fundraising, outreach, marketing and recruitment, programming, and event support and logistics. 

What You'll Do:
  • Fundraising = For our two annual fundraisers and several grants, will be responsible for donation outreach via email, phone, and social media and reporting through data entry and creating fundraising and grant reports to analyze with Director and making strategic outreach plans for the future 

  • High School Programs = Manage the outreach, recruitment of coaches and participants, event coordination, and facilitation of the high school bargaining role play and summer high school programs. 

  • Outreach and Recruitment = Responsible for marketing and identifying and facilitating new relationships for our programs, including recruitment of participants, instructors, students, volunteers, interns, and organizational partners.  This will be done in a variety of ways including but not limited to creating and distributing flyers, setting up booths at events, cold calling and emailing, as well as setting up and attending networking events.

  • Responsible for assisting with the preparation, outreach, facilitation, and reporting of our two annual fundraisers that have historically raised up to $85,000, and grants of up to $80,000.  Also responsible to identify, facilitate, and secure new funding opportunities including additional fundraisers and grants. 
 
What You'll Need:
 
  • Minimum required education and relevant experience: High School diploma/GED, and 3 years experience working for labor related organizations (unions, worker centers, community labor focused organizations, etc).  
  • Preferred education and relevant experience: Bachelor's degree, fundraising and administrative support experience, experience working with youth.  
  • Much of the position can be done remotely though part of the position requires in person work at places such as the office, events, and partner organizations throughout Cook County and surrounding suburbs. Must be able to drive or secure transportation for self in such instances.

  • Periodically spends extended periods of time driving, sitting, or standing.

The mission of the Latino Policy Forum is to build the power, influence, and leadership of the Latino community through collective action to transform public policies that ensure the well-being of its community and society as a whole. Through advocacy and analysis, the Forum builds a foundation for equity, justice, and economic prosperity for the Latino community. By catalyzing policy change, the Forum works to improve education outcomes, advocate for affordable housing, promote just immigration policies and strengthen community leadership.  

Position Summary

The Forum is seeking a full-time Associate Director of External Affairs to work closely with Forum leadership, state agencies, elected officials, and advocacy partners to identify, analyze, critique, and advocate for policy solutions that elevate immigration, housing, and other issues pertaining to Acuerdo partners and the Illinois Latino Agenda (ILA) coalitions. Under the supervision of the Director of Civic Engagement, this role also serves as the primary liaison to elected officials and develops and manages key external relationships including representing the Forum at select external coalitions. This position will play an auxiliary role to the Forum’s Education and Communications departments to coordinate opportunities for dissemination, collaboration, and external affairs. This position works in the Civic Engagement Department which manages the Forum’s housing, immigration, leadership, Illinois Latino Agenda and Acuerdo portfolios.  

Responsibilities
  • Lead staff in monitoring legislative, political, and external environment that could have an impact on Forum’s core issues as well as issues that impact Acuerdo and ILA partners. 

  • In consultation with the Director of Civic Engagement, develops the strategy and coordinates civic engagement components of Forum legislative work, community partnerships, and external outreach. 

  • Lead liaisonworking with team membersresponsible for implementing policy and advocacy strategy to elected officials and government partners on housing and immigration issues.  Supports education team on legislative policy.  

  • In consultation with the Civic Engagement Director and relevant Civic Engagement staff, sets and executes the implementation of the vision, strategy, agenda, goals, measure for success, for legislative work and external relationships   

  • Represents the Forum’s perspective and policy positions on select coalitions and issues, and to key elected officials and external stakeholders. 

  • In collaboration with CE Director manage and convene the Acuerdo and ILA coalitions. 

  • Supports CE Director in all departmental internal and external communications to conduct analysis and advance policy priorities developing policy briefs, fact sheets, and press releases, among other documents. 

  • Helps CE Director develop and execute the implementation of strategies and processes that engage community members to increase effective participation in housing and immigration issues and policy agenda. 

  • Provides managerial and supervisory oversight of staff and interns when needed.  

  • Develops the capacity of community members to support legislative activities (e.g., advocacy, testimony development, relationship-building, etc.). 

  • Develop responses and recommendations in support of or against select policies, programs, or systems. Convene stakeholder groups to provide recommendations and input. 

  • Other duties as assigned.
