Senior Planner Job- Bechtel - Chicago, IL
Responsible for managing a team of planners in producing studies, planning programs, and proposals. Typical content ranges from physical and policy planning, economic development, community design, transportation, and project implementation.
Planning Management Skills
1. Plans and directs assignments relating to research/analysis, site/regional reconnaissance, strategy, policy, and land use recommendations, stakeholder management, presentations and documentations, community design, transportation planning, planning studies, and proposals.
2. Has technical responsibilities for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating these assignments.
3. Supervises the planning activity on a project, or designated portions of a project
4. May exercise operational supervision over assigned project planners.
5. As directed, manages the complex organizational interactions that may evolve from the participation of several Bechtel industry groups (such as oil and gas, mining and minerals, or energy) on a project.
6. Establishes and maintains access to technical experts in the advanced technologies pertinent to the project, and sets up channels of communication to bring this expertise to bear effectively on the planning effort.

1. Economic and regional analysis
2. Site and area reconnaissance
3. Marketing, development, and real estate
4. Public policy and institutional development
5. Strategic planning
6. Sufficient familiarity with associated disciplines (architecture, engineering, urban design, environmental science, and business planning) in order to manage others (both internal and consultants)
7. Communications, presentations and documentation.
Basic Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Urban/Regional Planning, or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum 15+ years of management experience in planning or a related field.
- Experience in one or more of the following associated fields: engineering, architecture, economics, public policy.
- Experience in both the public and private sector
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English required
- Familiar with emerging codes and standards (such as “SmartCode” and LEED standards)
- Some knowledge of international planning models would be useful; Foreign language skills a plus.
- Candidate must currently live in or be willing to relocate to San Francisco California or Reston Virginia - if necessary
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to those who show exemplary ‘forward thinking’ and ‘future engineering/construction tech’ through their understanding of the industry as shown in their published articles, memberships they hold, industry references, advanced education, and overall industry experience.
