Data and Research Intern
The Data and Research Intern supports Arts Alliance Illinois’ research agenda through the investigation, collection,
aggregation, and maintenance of data sets related to the arts sector in Chicago and across the state. Working closely with
the Arts Alliance Illinois team, the Data and Research Intern helps to provide relevant data to arts managers, advocates,
researchers,anddecision-makersaboutthepresenceandroleofartsandcultureincommunities. ArtsAllianceIllinoisis
committed to making accurate, credible, and reliable data publicly available and easy to use. The Data and Research Intern
will help maintain an online data “warehouse” by compiling, uploading, and maintaining datasets from a variety of reliable
sources.

Collecting and uploading additional years/periods of data online

Ensuring data cleanliness, integrity and accuracy

Transforming raw data into usable statistics

Supporting the implementation of web applications

Creating and embedding Excel web app spreadsheets and other tools which optimize site functionality and
usability

Monitoring research reports, fact sheets, advocacy pieces, and other materials that incorporate arts and culture
data
Position qualifications

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, basic html, GIS mapping software (including ArcGIS software), Google
Sites, and web-based data visualization tools. Knowledge of Python programming language a plus.

Comfort working with large datasets

Strict attention to detail, ability to manage multiple tasks, and ensure quality of work

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Results oriented, resourceful and highly motivated

Excellent organizational and administrative skills

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Interest in public policy and legislative landscape a plus

Arts Alliance Illinois is a national leader in research on the arts sector and cultural policy. The data and research intern will be treated as a valuable and integrated member of the Alliance team. In addition to gaining a greater understanding of available data and research on the sector, this individual will also see first-hand how a small nonprofit arts organization operates.

The time commitment will be 3-4 days per week. Pay is hourly and commensurate with the experience of the
qualified applicant.
