Since 1982, LUCHA (Latin United Community Housing Association) has served thousands of moderate and low-income families with Affordable Housing Development, Emergency Housing Repair and Assistance, Home Buyer Counseling, Foreclosure Prevention and Legal Assistance.  LUCHA owns and operates 153 units of affordable housing in the West Town, Humboldt Park and Logan Square Communities, and counsels families around Chicago and in the Midwest region. LUCHA also partners with residents, community organizers, financial institutions and government agencies to maintain its $18 million in real estate assets and to advocate for greater affordable housing options in the region. LUCHA is currently seeking an experienced Housing Counselor.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Pre-purchase Counseling:
• Conduct homeownership education program and implement work plan for homeownership training 
• Facilitate homeownership seminars/workshops
• Conduct individual counseling with program participants to develop agreement for homeowners’ objectives; provide technical assistance during the property selection process, facilitate loan application, provide credit counseling, and provide support to denied applications.
• Follow up with homeowners regularly to assure stability, and provide support and technical assistance to homeowners as necessary.
• Process and facilitate home buyer grants for closing cost and down payment assistance.
Foreclosure Intervention Counseling:
• Help clients re-negotiate the terms of their mortgages with various lenders.
• Make calls to at-risk borrowers from monthly call list and offer counseling.
• Counsel participants and provide technical assistance and credit counseling and help client access financial support and other assistance available from City, County, and State programs.
• Follow up and provide support as necessary to assure residents stay current in their mortgages and access other financial and technical assistance.
• Maintain records, client notes, and other relevant data to assist the program directors to prepare reports and grant requests to funders and other key stakeholders.
Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

HOURS: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on weekdays. Some evenings and weekends required.

SALARY: $35,000 TO $40,000 depending on qualifications.

Mandatory Job Qualifications

OTHER: Must be a HUD certified housing counselor and have a minimum of 2 years experience in home buying and foreclosure counseling. Bachelor’s degree preferred, but willing to accept comparable work experience. Bilingual (Spanish and English) is a plus. Ability to work with people from different backgrounds. Good written and oral communications skills and excellent organizational skills. Experience in developing and implementing training programs.

Desired Qualifications

Candidates with current certificates from NeighborWorks, NCLR or equivalent training institution preferred.
