*Overview*
Volunteer Coordinator is primarily responsible for the recruitment,
training, coordination, and retention of an active volunteer base for the
IMD Guest House Foundation (IMDGHF). This includes the identification of
volunteer needs, development of job functions and descriptions,
interviewing, selecting and assigning volunteer. Further, the Coordinator
will be in charge of developing and maintaining contact and interest in
volunteering with various service groups in the Chicago community including
faith-based, civic, college, and high school groups. Additional
responsibilities of the position, to be performed under the direction of
the Guest Relations Manager include regular interaction and contact with
guests and hospital staff to assist with guest and patient stays, checking
guests in and out, assisting with discharge plans, and to make guests feel
at home and comfortable during their stay. ****

*Job Description *

**1. **Volunteer Program ****
**- **Produce Volunteer Plan within first 60 days under guidance
of Guest Relations Manager****
**o **Including: Overall scope of volunteer program, need and
opportunities for volunteers and associated job descriptions and
qualifications, orientation and training program for volunteer, time
keeping, recruitment plan, and performance evaluation system for plan and
volunteers. ****
**- **Implement volunteer retention strategies to maintain an
active, enthusiastic volunteer base including recognition events on a
periodic basis and a volunteer feedback system. ****
**2. **Guest Program****
**- **Develop relevant weekly program activities for guests under
guidance of Guest Relations Manager including educational programs with the
help of participating hospital partners and contributing programming and
service ideas to Guest Relations Manager and Executive Director. ****
**3. **Additional Responsibilities****
**- **Identify guests willing to share their
experience/testimonial for internal publication for fundraising or
community relations. ****
**- **Assist the Guest Relations Manager and Executive Director in
ensuring a safe, nurturing environment for guests at IMDGHF. ****
**- **Assist Guest Relations Manager with accepting referrals,
making reservations, contacting guests and assisting guests with IMDGHF
related needs as they arise. ****
**- **Preform other assigned duties. ****
*Qualifications *
**- **Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology or related
field required****
**- **Background in social work preferred ****
**- **1 year of volunteer supervisory experience or semester
internship with nonprofit organization with volunteers ****
**- **Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to project
professional competence, leadership capability and personal maturity ****
**- **Ability to effectively communicate and work with people with
diverse abilities, needs and backgrounds ****
**- **Experience with patients/family members under duress****
**- **Familiarity working with hospitals and large institutions ***

Founded in 1999, IMD Guest House Foundation, 501(c) 3 nonprofit
organization, provides affordable accommodations for patients and their
families that travel to receive medical care at Chicago area hospitals.
Each month the Guest House provides 360 nights of service to families in
need of affordable lodging near to medical care. Our facility is
conveniently located in the Illinois Medical District on the campus of the
University of Illinois at Chicago close to our partner hospitals; John H.
Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Rush University Medical Center and
University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System. IMDGHF currently
operates 16 guest rooms. ****
