Position Description: Development Manager

About the Position
Delta Institute is seeking an experienced individual to oversee Delta’s development activities, and associated communications and marketing. This position reports to Delta’s CEO.
Responsibilities
• Maintain Delta’s development strategy, including collecting input from staff and board members, and align it with Delta’s updated organizational strategy
• Oversee pursuit of funding opportunities, including writing and editing grant proposals and project concept papers
• Undertake funder research, and identify opportunities to cultivate relationships with donors
• Attend and support meetings of the Development Committee of the board
• Prepare marketing and business development materials (e.g. presentations, event blurbs)
• Assist program and project managers in identifying and pursuing funders
• Assist in outreach and closing of funding and sponsorship agreements
• Provide writing support as required for board and donor communications
• With staff, write and edit reports, text for Delta’s website, articles for media and other external
publications
• Write sections of key organizational documents (e.g. annual report)
• Supervise interns/staff and liaise with contractors providing supporting services, including
communications, graphic design and media relations/PR.
Required Education and Experience
• College degree required, and advanced degree desired. Education fields desired: business,
communications, non-profit management and sustainability
• At least five years working in business development and communications
• Experience working with foundations. Some experience with government agencies, corporate
sponsors and/or major donors also preferred.
• Technical skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of programs and internet-based research.
Experience with Salesforce contact management database a plus.
• Knowledge of environmental and economic development issues helpfulesired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Persuasive and organized thinker, with capacity to design and communicate processes to guide
organizational development operations
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
• Ability to be flexible, positive, take initiative, and demonstrate good judgment
• Active team player, including providing timely feedback on others’ work, and identifying linkages
between projects and programs.
• An interest in the environmental sustainability, community development and non-profit sector.
