Position with AmeriCorps Residency

The AmeriCorps funding program called Residency in Social Enterprise with the New Sector Alliance has an opening for the San Francisco RISE class! Information on the position is at: http://www.newsector.org/services/clients/residency.php

New Sector Residency in Social Enterprise

New Sector Residency in Social Enterprise places 20 competitively selected young professionals with 20 prominent Boston-based social enterprises for one year. Our Residents are motivated, capable and above all ready to get things done. New Sector Alliance works with each Resident Host Site to structure and scope the capacity building projects that our Residents complete. More specifically, New Sector provides the following:

  • Recruiting & Marketing - From January to June, New Sector leverages our strong brand to market this opportunity to thousands of students at hundreds of leading colleges and universities across the country.
  • Interviewing & Matching - From the winter to late spring, our team interviews qualified applicants and provides each Host Site with three Resident candidates to interview. Ultimately, we place one Resident with each Host Site based on mutual fit between Host Site and Resident.
  • Project Scoping & Work Plan Development - Concurrently, we work with each Host Site to identify an internal project (or projects) that will create significant impact at the organization while leveraging and developing the unique skills of the Resident. We develop a corresponding work plan to guide the Resident through his or her first three months on site, and then assist with further work planning and project management over the course of the year.
  • Extensive Training - Together with our private sector, nonprofit, and academic collaborators, we deliver a comprehensive training program for the Residents focused on project management, financial literacy, and effective communication skills. In addition to initial kick-off training, Residents receive on-going training throughout the year. We deliver workshops and help Residents use their network of peers to share best practices across projects.
  • Mentoring - New Sector provides each Resident with a mentor from our network of consultants. The mentors, who bring professional expertise relevant to their Resident's project, help ensure that both the Host Site and the Resident have support and guidance throughout this one-year experience.

Hiring a Resident

All New Sector Residency Host Sites receive a significant discount due to the generous in kind donations of our consulting firm partners and the discounted rate of New Sector’s professional project management staff time. The total cost for hiring a Resident during the 2008-09 program cycle is $35,000. Nonprofits with limited budgets can apply to New Sector's scholarship fund.

Residents begin their year of service in September and remain with their Host Site through the following August. Organizations interested in hosting a Resident should contact New Sector staff at applications@newsector.org or +1 617 488 4973. The New Sector Residency In Social Enterprise is supported by the Massachusetts Service Alliance and the Corporation for National Service.
